nah, i personally think they are asking way to much for it. I'm eyeing an m235i xdrive as my next car. I agree with you, would love an x5m or x6m. with some kw3s they look great. I see an estoril blue x6m in saratoga all the time.

True. I agree. I have been slow to accept the e46. And while the e36 was an awesome car the styling I like the least.

What, pray tell, do you have against the best handling M3 of them all? Arguably, overall the best handling production car ever made?

Yes, the E36 body design is dated (I like the looks of the E46 the best), but it will always be one of the best M cars ever.
If you haven't driven an e30m3 on track or on a country road, you aren't qualified to make that statement.

Yes. We know that automobile and other mags proclaimed the e36 the best handling car in the world at one time, but sorry. It's not the best handling m3. It's more capable, faster , but no where near as fun to drive. The e30 m3 has neutral handling. The e36 understeers. Same with the e46 vs the e36. More understeer, and quicker overall but not as fun to drive.

Yup! The F82 is overstyled like a modern Hyundai and looking at all those lines, creases gives me a headache.

Comparing stock suspension(s) you are probably right. I have driven an E30 on the track and it was great, but it had coilovers/highly modified suspension so hard to assess vs stock. Just seemed a little underpowered compared to E36.

Yes the E36 does push a little, especially with stock suspension. Most guys that know how to set E36 up for the track remove the rear sway bar which helps a lot. If it starts pushing a little just add throttle, rear squats down, and boom you're through the turn. Thinking you're swinging out too far to make the exit, don't let up just give it even more gas and your exiting even faster. Still not enough power in E36 to get you in trouble though which is nice.

My experience E30 vs E36 is mostly from the track so really not relevant, I guess, since most suspensions highly modified. All I know is that they are both really, really quick. There's an E30 in our club with a giant wing that, for the life of me, I cannot catch. I'm probably 500lbs heavier though and have stock body.

LOL. Very true !

Great description of the e36! The e30 m3 is definitely under powered in comparison so you are pretty much always on the throttle!

When you enter a corner too fast in the e30, you just lift slightly to get the rear to rotate and then put your foot back to the floor. It's sublime!

I can't understand, for the life of me, why all the E9x owners think the E9x looks the best!!

I think the E46 looks the best. Also don't understand all the praise of the E36, since the version we got in the US was way underpowered and many didn't even consider it to be a real ///M. Of course the US version of the E30 M3 had far less power than the Euro version also. The E46 was the first time we didn't get an emasculated version of the world car.

But as others have said, they were all great in their own way, and I, too, would like to own a good example of each.

Let's put it this way. For the price, there's no better car IMHO. What car under $10k is as good as nicely maintained E36 M3.

I love being able to beat the hell out of this thing and not having to worry about rod bearings and blah blah blah.

But that's another story

What's there to understand? It's a matter of choice.

Some people think the F8x is butt ugly (I'm not one of them). Doesn't mean they are right or wrong. This is about the subjective we can talk about when it comes to cars.

I pretty much break my neck when I see a clean M3 period (only if it's a rare color for the E36 M3).

Yes would have been nice to have the S50 euro here, but the US version was underrated and was no slouch. My stock S52 put down 219 rwhp and 224rwtq, not to bad.

Also something not mentioned yet comparing these models is longevity. The S52 just lasts FOREVER! I don't think you'll see the same kind of longevity out of the high revving S54 and S65. It will be interesting to see how the slightly lower revving S55 longevity holds up in the long run.
