By the way, the fact that they haven't introduced a carbon fiber hood as well, suggests that the front axle seems to be light enough.

Blows away my expectations, especially on the weight. Nice to see things go in the right direction for a change. Even though we'll never get our N/A engines from BMW again, the huge delta in weight reduction coupled with a higher revving turbo is going to really differentiate this car from the direct Merc, Audi, Lexus, Caddy, competition. Very nice to see as I had my doubts about the future of the brand.

Also notice that the first and second interior pics are from a different car. The first one has a non-leather dash with the interior trim piece covered, but the second one shows the black-gloss trim piece and has a leather dash.

I also noticed a speed-readout on the black panel!! I'm hoping for a full black-panel display.
Pretty sure these are production gauges. The 'crooked' cut outs are actually cut that way for a purpose. There's information and stuff that is displayed there with the LED display the gauges sit on top of.

Correct. They even display the M logo.

Wow this car looks great. I'll get on the list.

Any word whether it has ducts for brake cooling? I know that was a complaint for the E90

Same here.. hopefully it's defeatable like someone else mentioned.

Other than that the numbers look great! Curious to how it drives... those power and torque curves kind of still have me wondering if it'll fall flat like my jb4 335i did past 5k. Overall I'm pretty damn excited for it tho!!

Uh oh did I speak too soon??...just saw the "80kg lighter vs comparable predecessor model" which wasn't there earlier... now -176 lbs is a little different than being 300-400lbs lighter. That's going to be around an 8.0 lbs/hp ratio, so less impressive.

as long as they've made it better..6spd is fine, especially w/ a torquier car.

Here is my 0-60 speculation. With the M5 the competition package adds 15hp and BMW claims it shaved 0.1s off the 0-60 run. That's 15hp over 560 of the same.

On the 335i PPK BMW claims the 20 additional horses are good for 0.2s off the 0-60 run and this has largely been proven to be true.

I assume with 100hp over the 335i with PPK the 0-60 run should be shortened by 1s, to 3.4s. Quarter should be about 12s flat as the 335i with PPK is good for 13s flat.

Given the E92 M3 is good for 3.9 and 12.8 I think the numbers I derived are within reason given the extra tq less weight on the new M. In addition the new M will EASILY put at least a 1s buffer between it and any ambitious 335i.

Let's see how it plays out

E92 335i with 6-speeed manual was 3550lb so in terms of power to weight ratio this car will feel something like full bolt-on 335i in stock form.

[QUOTE=suprtran;14713905]Only 16hp more than the E92 and 300lbs less?? I'm impressed with the weight loss (albeit never should have gotten to the point of 3900lb in the first place ), but not so much with the power output; am I the only one who feels this way?

I agree

As others have stated hopefully it can be set to default "off".
With that feature alone, BMW has sold me on getting the 6spd and saving myself the $4000 DCT option. Guess having grown up in the playstation era has made me unappreciative and lazy when it comes to manuals sadly!

Why the surprise? N54 owners see similar boost levels with full bolt ons, and make similar power.

Once tuners get hold of some larger/rebuilt turbos, that closed deck block engine is going to be able to handle some crazy power increases.

Still not liking the design or materials but, the power train does have me excited, indeed. I'm really interested in the M2 specs. <3100 pounds and ~360hp from a closed deck TT straight 6? Hopefully it's just a derivative/detuned version of this motor. I'm hoping for sort of a lightened, updated 1M. O man.....
