Any word from your dealer about the new version? I'm itching to have this exhaust installed but am torn between getting now (and I guess replacing if it cracks) or rolling the dice on a "new version" that has been rumored since at least 2017.

I work for BMW and I don't see any new version of this MPE exhaust coming out. Part numbers are still the same as the old version and available in the US.

As an employee of BMW, what do you make of this exhaust splitting issue? Is it 100% bound to happen from your first hand experience?

Just got my new MPE installed at the dealer today. Hassle free warranty coverage. Great service from BMW and my dealer

I haven't seen enough of the MPE coming through my dealer. Not many people wants to spend 6k on a exhaust. So I can't really comment on the cracking issues and replacement.
But I did have my MPE replaced a couple of months ago and so far so good on the new one. It's only got a couple thousands miles on it so it's still too early to tell.

So I just bought a used 2016 M4 just over a month ago and noticed today the crack on my MPE. Trying to talk to dealer (not BMW) to see if they can contact the local BMW dealership where it was bought and maintained to see what they can find out and see if it was installed by BMW. NICE.

No it doesn't. Just stained from leaking through those cracks.

I thought the same but was curious to see what you all had to say. Wish I would have known this before buying it so that I could have negotiated it into the price. I also feel like the dealer should have caught that.

Have the dealer make it right.

+1 That's what mine looked like, although mine were hairline cracks. The white is from fluid leaking out of the cracks.

Still waiting for sales rep to call me back. The more I think about it the more upset I get that they didn't catch it. This is a high end used car dealer in a big city.

I hope the dealer will make this right for you. If they tell you to pound sand, then then it wouldn't hurt taking it to BMW (assuming you're still under warranty). Worst thing that can happen is them telling you no. If nothing pans out, you could have it repaired like multiple members on here and have some supports welded on for further rigidity. I'm already planning on that once my warranty expires.

I would think they wouldn't even think to look and most people wouldn't even think to look either. Its just enthusiasts and people on forums who are aware of this kind of stuff going looking for it.

But I would assume they put the car on the lift and check out the exhaust system to make sure there aren't any issues.

I had the MPE installed as a port accessory on my 2018 ZCP. As it is on the window sticker, it should be covered by warranty.

Considering installing the FabSpeed x pipe to get some better sound and get rid of the secondary cars. If my MPE cracks, will there be a potential warranty issue since I have the midpipe installed?

Yes, if they can trace the problem to your modifications. Will they be able to? Probably not. Is there a risk? Yes. Not only that, but legally you can't remove your cats, so that's just one more thing they have to look the other way for. Hopefully your SA and dealership is mod friendly. That's a $5k bet! Good luck!

Thanks for the response. I agree its a $5k bet. My dealer is mod friendly and when I asked about it, they even offered to complete the install themselves. With that said, still concerned about the risk of a crack and being SOL with a warranty fix or replace.

Luckily I live in a county where emissions testing is not required, and even if it were, I should still pass because the primary cats are still there.

I wonder if driving with the valves permanently open (eg using and obd or similar method) reducing the chance of cracking ?

Just get them to check it at each dealer visit.

Warranty will cover it.
