Swapped my F80 iDrive Screen for an F15 10.2" Screen
I finally did this. Required some balls to make sure you don't screw up the dashboard. I am happy overall but the left side cut has just a little extra. I already have plans to correct it properly. I'll attack this weekend. I have a 2015 M3 BTW. My OEM 8" had a small scratch so I was more than anxious to do the swap.
Thanks to IK6SPEED for selling me the screen as well as an additional broken screen for fitment trial purposes. There are no specific instructions. Get a dremel and a vacuum and get to work. Use a dry erase marker to make your marks. Be prepared to get in and out about 50 times. I spent about 3 hours being patient. It is plug and play. You don't need to code. You don't need to unplug you battery. Its just physical fitment. Completely worth it. Its freaking huge. The difference is bigger in person than in pictures. Its not gaudy, it looks proper. BTW I did code it afterward to 1600x600 Resolution... absolutely no difference at all. Don't even bother coding it.

Did you only cut the back of the display or you had to cut the dashboard? Tempted to do this too but I don't want to touch the dashboard.

Thanks man.
I wanted to modify the screen too. I rolled it around for a bit. IK6SPEED brought up a good point that the dashboard modification was very minor and if I just sell my OEM screen, then who cares just leave the big screen in there forever. I’m not prepared to modify or sand down glass. Screw that. But I completely understand where you are coming from. You should only be choosing to modify one or the other. A proper audio/stereo shop should be able to modify the glass for you jowvever a risk is always taken.

This mod wouldn't have even crossed my mind. It's not something I'd do but if I was to try and upgrade my '16 to the '17-18 hardware so I can get Apple CarPlay then I'd probably be interested in the costs associated with doing this. I remember how much of a pain the install of my BimmerTech backup system was. The space behind the air vents, wiring harness and mounting it. Glad I don't have to do that again.

To file the metal on the back down does take some serious time and effort, especially if you do not have the proper power tools. It is much easier to cut less than 1" inch of the dash where the CID bolts into the dash in 5-10 minutes than the hours it would take to do the other method. Honestly, I am not sure why he cut the left side of his dashboard as there are pics clearly showing the CID plastic frame is trimmed there, not the dashboard. |

Any options for 18 models that come with touchscreen?
Currently I don't use the touchscreen but when IOS 12 comes out later this year with Waze and Google Maps in CarPlay I think I'm going to use touch functions more often.

BMW Part 65509347878/65509296939 Add $500 labor and shipping to down under. Let’s just call it $3800 USD. I will be happy to sell you one for that. Perfect fit. Plug and play. When can I expect the $3800? Or you blowing smoke? Quote:

Lol why so triggered bro You missed the point of requesting this being a high volume offering from an already established vendor With volume comes lower pricing, both in purchasing the oe part and amortizing any custom fab natch Nobody here in Aus is going to send you 3800 when a) you can buy the rhd screen for 24xx from ecs, b) you have yet to confirm fitment on rhd or even have access to a rhd car, and c) who are you I tell ya what, if you're keen on making this a viable business, make one up, test fit with pics on both a RHD leather and plastic dash (the leather seam is right where the cut would be, so that will add a good 5mm more to the cut which a plastic dash won't require, so you'll most likely find during testing you'll need to offer 2 versions), work on getting that oe component pricing down as per above, and I'll even help setup group buy for local owners |

High volume at that price. Dream on. The price is the price as these would need to be one offs as Leather and Non-Leather Dashes take different trimming. And I know there will be NO DEMAND which is the only reason I’m doing this. I’m not in the business of selling car mods or car parts. BTW, there is no RHD Screen from ECS, or BMW for that matter. Also, you cannot dictate where Bimmertech purchases your equipment. It’s a set price. And let’s not forget there is a 5% GST for the goods to be imported in Australia. So let’s just call it $5400 AUD / $4000 USD Last edited by IK6SPEED; 06-17-2018 at 11:42 AM.. |

Interesting mod, but why is the screen so damn expensive? Not sure why I'm surprised, but I bet the wholesale of that unit (made in CHINA, keep in mind) is less than 1k.

Likewise, remember a pair of M3 exterior mirrors comes out at over $3800 USD MSRP new last time I checked and replacing Merino Leather Seats (just the outer leather covering) is roughly $16,000 USD MSRP. Both prices without tax or install labor. I did not order the cold weather package on a vehicle which would have been $800 list at time of purchase. The retrofit price would blow your mind. |

btw for future ref, the gst is actually 10%, but the customer pays that to customs, you don't charge it on top of your pricing as a seller thanks for the pics, it does seem possible you can backing plate mod without touching the dash you've inspired me to buy a used one for several hundred bucks to have a go at it myself, looks easy enough with a dremel https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-BMW-...0AAOSwTQtaCkQU Last edited by domino_z; 06-17-2018 at 08:17 PM.. |

Any others attempt this retrofit? I'm debating, but concerned cutting the screen and the patience that might be required.
Any tutorials from those that have cut the screen would be great.

It’s not the screen It’s the housing trim around the screen. You take the screen out while trimming with a Dremel. Get some bad units for screwups / practice. |
