Auto headlights 'off' function

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So, from being sporadic in going off after going thru' a tunnel or coming out of a parking garage during the day, now the auto off function does not work at all - my car went in for an oil change and I did complain about this issue - the tech says there is no setting for this and noted there was a service bulletin out, but no fix. The auto 'on' function works great.
Anyone else having this issue? Also, is the sensor on the windshield?

The sensor is in the rearview mirror post behind the windshield.

Ensure that your windshield is clean in that area. If it is dirty, the sensor can be tricked in thinking that it is darker than it actually is. Hence turning on but not turning off.

Try turning the headlights off and then turn off the car. Turn the car back on and set the headlights back to auto. Should fix it.

Mine does this even after I coded it to the least sensitive setting. Now I don't even bother using the auto headlights.

My 2011 F10 had this same issue. Totally ridiculous that BMW can't make their auto headlights work right!! My Lexus and Porsche lights work perfectly.

WTF, BMW, make the little, stuff work!

Yep, it's quirky at times. I find that when I leave the house in the AM the headlights are on but even as the sun comes up and it gets bright out, they don't turn off at times. It isn't always, but I have noticed this behavior. My 2008 Honda Accord and 2013 Grand Cherokee auto on/off work flawlessly.....this car is just quirky in that.

I write it off as "Well, I didn't buy this car for whether or not the auto on/off lights are consistent anyway...." lol..... But yeah, I agree, the little shit should work
