Valet Fail - And I Can't Prove It...

Went out to dinner last night, no available parking so I had to valet. I absolutely hate valet parking in general, always check the odometer, have my settings set, make sure it's on the same radio station, and usually watch them park it.

The guy takes my car and goes around the corner. I didn't see him park it. But I came out to this:

Called the restaurant and they don't have cameras. They also have signs saying they aren't liable. I didn't notice the damage until this afternoon. I'm going to contact other places in the area to see if they have cameras out back but I'm beyond pissed.

Man, this happened to me once and I tried everything, unfortunately there's not much you can do. You can threaten to sue them and hope for the best OR use your insurance and hope they use your comprehensive. Mine has a $0 deductible, not sure what yours would be.

My deductible is $1k. I doubt it'll hit that mark. It's just aggravating. Wish I could remember the guy's name that parked it.

I've heard the same thing about trying to get them to pay. Unless you have legit proof, you have no chance. Thinking of getting a dash cam just for the chance that it may happen again...

This is so true. The situation sucks period and not much you can do. Hindsight is 20/20 but if this is the kind of stuff that can happen when you valet, then take a different car if you have one or eat somewhere else. It's incredibly unfortunate that those are the only options.

Happened to me years ago, quarter panel dented , as soon as you leave the lot, game over , if you caught it before then call the cops and file a report on the spot .

I left the lot so nothing I can do , found it the next day while washing the car

The risks of valeting a car like this are just too high. You have to basically assume that stuff like this will happen if you leave your car in someone else's hands.

Fixed it....
I never "have" to valet, I've driven across town at two in the morning to another hotel because they only had valet. My anul ocd once again justified at the expense of another person.

Dashcam, video cameras, none of this means anything to me, having the incident on film just makes hassle for liability easier. Car's still effed, still messing with insurance claims, still wasting all "my" time with auto body shops, all this pain in the d__k because of a 2-3 min drive I let someone take who's sole purpose in life is to hurry and park vehicles, eff that.

Just because they have signs does not mean they are not responsible. They posted those signs to discourage you from coming after them. They are still responsible. Besides, they know most people don't make up things like this. So they know their guys did it. I would come back and talk to the manager. Every time they say they have signs just tell them those signs don't mean anything you didn't sign anything agreeing to those signs. Having said that I'm installing a dash cam right now.

Which restaurant is this so I can avoid?

How the fuck do you guys get this kind of treatment ?

My latest experience was a Valet at space needle here in Seattle. Conversation:

"Ms nice car."

"thanks. You drive a stick?"

"yes Ms. Do you have a preference where we park Peter (he apparently reads bimmerpost, knew the name)"

"a good photo would be appreciated. I don't care if you take him for a spin, but do know he has zero damage now, I expect to find him in the same condition when I've dropped my sil from the needle"

"I will put him in front. We will keep an eye on him"

I gave the kid 20 went away, and when I returned, one of the valets was still standing next to my car.

Next to their stand. Never left their sight.

My point is, I spent 2.5 months trying to poison my sister-in-law (mentioned sil) with spicy foods. I was the chef, she was the guest. If you ever disrespect any kid you see working for you, they bite back.

I don't mean that this is what the op did,but lets face it: We m drivers have the worst rep ever. We need to be extra nice to get our shit back the way we left it.

Lol, here you don't want to go to the minivan section. Nobody gives a shit and you'll just cry anyway.

Europe is different. To say we win is putting it mildly (I miss that damn place sooooo bad)

I always tell them I want to park my car myself, and still tip them. Usually they just ask me to put it in the front, they like to leave it showcased.

SOCIAL in Costa Mesa. Great food, but doesn't outweigh what happened.

If you have to valet, just tell them to "float" it. They'll put your car right up front where you can see it. Obviously this is a tip up-front situation.

I've done this countless times. And even if there's no place to float, they will try to accommodate as best they can. I will even go out of my way to "politely" tell them the car has a very low clearance and to please be careful b/c other valets have damaged the front before but I know my car is in great hands with them.

Works every time.
