So the 911 I drove did not have the sport chrono package and I drove the car with the sport button engaged.
I guess I was hoping that the 911 would provide "holy crap" acceleration off of the line. I don't really care if a car and approach 170-185 mph and can provide a huge burst of acceleration to propel you over the legal speed limit.... For me (since I obey the speed limit most of the time), I'm looking for a car that can provide quick accessible low-end torque. Although I have not driven the M car yet, I think I'll like the steering better. Again... I will stress that it's hard to beat a 911 in terms of looks.... the exterior lines & detail and full leather interior package were so gorgeous that I almost felt bad about even considering getting myself such an expensive toy. For some reason I view the M3/M4 as a more humble car. In my mind the whole 911 vs. M3/M4 argument comes down to which vehicle is your dream car. When you're shelling out 80k for a certified base 911 or a fully loaded new M car you need to be 100% satisfied with your purchase. I know a lot of people on this forum have said " oh my gosh, I can't believe they compared both of these cars," but I think this comparison article is really important because it informs us that both vehicles are very similar in terms of their performance abilities. Now it comes down to which vehicle's intangibles make you happier! |

I think I'd still have the 911. The Carrera s would have destroyed it.
I love the m4, but the 911 is just so much better looking. And who can say no to the na 3.8

i have had both 991 and a 997.... the 991 feels a lot more crammed with the lower roof line

if you want straight line speed and torque when you hit the gas. take the 911 into a turn without lifting the gas and you will begin to appreciate how incredible the car is.

in all fairness....the 911 won almost all the driving categories....the M4 won the comfort categories!

Great comparison...I'm sure if the Porsche had the PDK to be more comparable it would have won or been closer with the 0-60 times... M4 had great numbers... It's going to be great when it gets a comp package upgrade...

Doesn't matter if its a Carrera or Carrera S, the point is... the 911 won. Only reason the "total" score gave it to the M4, was because of the scores of 1 for rear leg room and 1 for rear seats to the 911. IMHO, I could care less about that, if I'm driving a Porsche :P

The only reason I see someone choosing a 911 over an M4 is either for status showing or because he has so much money that he can buy one of each just for the fun of it.
I mean, the M4 is like 30% cheaper, has more performance both in real world and on the track, looks very elegant and aggressive and has a great ride quality and interior quality. |

To me these ratings are cool to look at and give me a false sense of pride in my purchase, but these 2 cars are really different and not wholly comparable; M4= Practicality/high perf and 911 = no compromise high performance.
I would have bought a used 2011-2013 911 GT3 or turbo but I cant fit my kids in the backseat and I preferred more of the features and amenities at this point in my life. So I guess the ratings are helpful in some respect. My kids would have loved for the GT3 and me to take them to school in it, but then I am screwed in taking them around town to practice. 4 more years until only 1 kid left at home! |

A nicely optioned 911s is $110 thousand plus. Loaded 0ver $125. That's a significant amount of money MORE than a M4. Almost bought an M6 last week. Great car....too heavy. Lots of power. If a person wants a 911: great for them. Several of my friends have one. Not an every day car for me. The M3/M4 are. Ordered a white M4,DCT. September build. Know I'll be pleased.
