Is the sales tax based on overall car price or another value (leased amount, etc)? VA DMV site doesn't address this concerning leased vehicles.

Also, you are hit every the year with the property tax if I recall yes? I remember getting hit with that annually but just want to clarify.

Found this on VA DMV site (doesn't provide much on leasing):

For the purposes of the Motor Vehicle Sales and Use Tax collection, gross sales price includes the dealer processing fee. The gross sales price is the vehicle price after the manufacturers' rebates or manufacturers' incentives. Gross sales price does not include any other price reductions, such as credit for trade-ins, unpaid liens or other unpaid credits.

Collecting the SUT Tax

The Motor Vehicle Sales and Use tax is collected at the time of titling whenever a vehicle is sold and/or ownership of the motor vehicle changes.
1. Hi, for VA, you do pay property tax and it's a ridiculous amount based on assessed value of the car.
2. As for sales tax, the tax (4.17%) is on the sale price of the car and not the price you are technically financing.
3. I'm not a 100% sure but I think you can either pay the tax up front or build it into your monthly payment. When, I leased in VA, I had the tax included in my monthly payment.

So I am shopping for the car right now, and the current incentives and deals are great right now for the F80. In my area alone, the car is being discounted up to 6XXXK off MSRP through the USAA buyer service.

I was informed at one dealership that the incentives were good through December; essentially that NOV/DEC will remain the same. They recommended I put in the order toward the end of December, and they would file for an extension for the incentives so I could build on a date that will allow me to finish my lease and transition into the new car. Is this possible? I have never heard of that before.

*Note: I would buy from here because of the experience I had but they cannot get near the USAA discount offered at the other dealer.

At the dealership, where the USAA deal is honored, they want me to order in JAN given my MAY16 end of lease. Any idea, based on previous years, if the DEC numbers will be that different from the JAN? If the previous tactic is available, is it worth it to try and lock in the December price but don't actually order until JAN/FEB?

Thanks for the assistance thus far. It is very much appreciated.

Historically - the best residuals and Money factors are from April-ish to June-ish. You order your car end of Jan, it will get here in perfect time. I think that despite the incentives and rebates offered during December....those res/MF numbers will trump that no matter what.

Looking for input on this one. Doesn't feel like a good deal yet and the dealer keeps coming back with #s that don't quite make sense when I plug them in Leasematic.

Shouldn't base (pre-tax) payment be at $935 with a MF of .00131? How is this being padded?

MSRP is $80,655

Using my own spreadsheet, I come up with $962.02.

MSRP $80,655
Sale $77,650
Acq. $925
Term 36 Mo.
Resid. 62%
MF 0.00131
Base Payment $962.02

I did not plug in any of their other fees, this is purely the items above. As an aside, are you confident they're not marking up the base MF? Most dealers do unless it's part of your negotiations...

They are using .00151 money factor to go from $962.02 base payment to $987.xx payment.

Also yes, your base payment is 962.02 based on the screenshot you posted. Not sure where you got $935 from.

I'll admit I'm relying on the Leasematic app for this, which I was told was a good calc for these things. It's possible I'm doing it wrong.

Original MF offered was .00170. I told them to re-do it with current base rate or I walk. I was told the above was done with .00131 but it's not explicitly listed and I actually don't know how to back-calculate it from the figures shown.

Not very happy with this dealer/offer so far.

You're not capitalizing the 925 fee. That's why your monthly payment is incorrect.

Are you paying the 925 fee up front? Or are you capitalizing it (rolling it into the lease). The first screenshot from the dealer showed you rolling the 925 into the lease. In which case $962 is the correct base monthly payment before taxes with a .00131 money factor.

That's likely below invoice. I'm looking to do a similar deal right now. I think I have a ways to go before my dealer will offer a $6,000 discount.

Do you have a breakdown of the discount? Is that 3 MSDs?
