June ED - when to start reaching out to dealerships
Hey guys,
The wifey and I are planning on doing a June 2016 ED for an F80. When should I start reaching out to dealerships for pricing / allocations? From what I've gathered from the forums, it's about a 3 month turn around. I plan on doing the fax multiple dealerships my spreadsheet tactic with all the numbers and codes laid out. Probably will start at $750 over invoice and go from there. Realistic deal would be $1500 or so over invoice, so it seems. Plan on doing ED then PCD as I live in Charlotte, so the PCD center is only about 2 hours from me. Feel free to toss out recommended dealerships as well! Thanks! |

3 months is a good time frame. Only caution, you're pretty close to the end of 2016 production in June. Allocation shouldn't be an issue, but it can't hurt to start a little early.

Yeah, I would go ahead and start reaching out Jan 1. You might have to get "on the list" for an allocation, which may take a few months. Hopefully you can get an allocation before April 1, giving you plenty of time to confirm/plan the trip.

Best I can do is give you my experience for a June 17, 2015 delivery, your mileage may vary!
July 14 - Book flights on United using miles Oct 14 - put down deposit to get on the waiting list, 7 in front of me Jan 15 - start bugging my SA, he says don't panic (yeah, not his car!) Mar 15 - got my allocation, confirmed June 17 delivery (Woohoo!) Jun 17, 2015 - all holy fun broke loose in Munich! I've told everyone who will listen, and a couple who wouldn't what a great experience it was, only bummer is how long my wife will make me wait for the next time!

It is ED, so you have some leeway with the end of the model year. Start in Jan, get things set in Feb. They will give you an "earliest date" (in your case finalizing in Feb that might be March, but you pick a date after that (June). They hold the car in the interim.
30 Days out you sign the PO, 5 or so days before pickup you fund the deal and pay for it (lease, loan, etc.) Did exactly this timeframe last year with the wife's car. |

You didn't mention if you want anything individual, but if you do then start NOW. The individual car timeline is longer with all the wrassling about what color you want and getting it booked into an individual production slot can take some time.

Dead of winter in February would be when I would start shopping to see what the best deal I could find would be. That will give you plenty of time and the sales side should start getting hungry again after the busiest month of sales in December.

Sweet. Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I will get all my numbers and spreadsheet straight during December then send them out to the dealerships starting in January. I'm sure I'll be posting more soon, look forward to joining the family!!
