Not that I would skip ED given the fact that we spent zero time doing typical "tourist" activities, or spending/wasting time in crowded places, but you all are missing the OP point.

Have some degree of common sense in what the current situation is, as it's completely different than many peoples analogies.. It's about risk minimization; not complete avoidance.

Just because it's exceedingly rare to get bitten by a shark doesn't mean you should go swimming while the water is being chummed ...

If someone is chumming off Nantucket I'll still go swimming at Nauset Beach.

Yours is similar to mine!
Did you drop off your car at Frankfurt?

I wonder if the weather will be similar in mid Dec
I hear people getting stuck and now you had a good exp without tires

My dilemma continues
The biggest concern is the route between salzburg and Venice

I dropped mine at Frankfrut, the people working there are really nice and cooperative. You prolly already know this but drop-off typically required to set the date in at least 4 weeks advance but they still let me change it few days prior to drop off. They even printed this note for me to keep the plates;

Yup, looks like that route would be the biggest challenge; only if it heavily snows. One time I was driving up the mountain under snowy and extremely foggy conditions, but the road was clean enough to do above 100km all time.

I didn't rent/reserve snow tires, simply because I wasn't going to drive my brand new M3 under heavy snow condition. If the weather was bad, I was going to let Welt to deliver my car to the port, then pick up a local rental car to finish my trip; i think it was still cheaper than renting snow tires. However, one-way rental gets really expensive if you're considering this option.

I changed my itinerary every day depend on the weather. That's why I didn't book any hotels, etc until one day before the trip. It's off season in Europe, you can easily find a room a day before for a pretty cheap price.

Thats exactly what i am planning to do, make my hotel reservations per weather condition

I guess i will drop salzburg off my list as Austria requires winter tires Maybe ill go to prague instead

Again thank you for your information!

Sitting here at Welt, just got my new M3. Drove around the building, then down to the parking lot, has 2 miles on it. Waiting for the factory tour then off to the roads to tour around munich. Weather is nice 50, no rain. Great experience doing the ED. Tomorrow drive all day to the base of the Alps, then airport drop off Friday morning, land home in Miami at 5pm local. I know I will hate the next 4 to 6 Weeks doing the wait.

This brings back a lot of fond memories (did my ED this time last year).

Be prepared to potentially wait for longer than 4-6 weeks for the car if it doesn't get out of Europe before the extended pre/post-Xmas holidays.
