Question Performance Center Redelivery

We have an '18 M4 ZCP scheduled for ED pickup in early June, and will likely drop off the car at the Bremerhaven port in late June.

I'm debating doing a performance center redelivery, but am concerned it will delay getting the car. My dealer said that the PCD cars come into a port down south that is a bit faster (Brunswick, GA). They said it will accelerate how quickly I get the car, but I've also seen things that state PCD is 10 weeks, versus 4-6 for normal dealer delivery.

I'm in Pittsburgh, PA, so I'm assuming the car would come in at the BMW VDC in New Jersey.

Which would be faster? I don't know if it's worth waiting another 4-6 weeks for the PCD.

PCD takes longer. Usually a few weeks.

It will add weeks to your delivery. Brunswick is further than BALPOA. PCD won't schedule your delivery until the car is in Brunswick. This adds a couple of weeks typically. You get the PCD experience in trade.

Thanks everyone! I'll really have to think on this, since adding another few weeks to redelivery might not be worth it, since it'll push me toward Fall, and I'd like to enjoy the car before the snow comes.

Two weeks might be worth it, but four might not. Does it vary?

If it gives you any idea, I dropped my car off in Nice on 6/29/16. It can add an extra week dropping off there as they have to truck it to Bremerhaven. I was also affected by the differential delivery hold, and I ended up doing PCD on 9/13/16.

Damn.

Living in a place with winter weather, I might skip the PCD. If I drop off at the end of June in Bremerhaven, I'll likely end up doing a PCD sometime in September. This will give me maybe a month with the car before it starts to get too cold for the tires to be worthwhile.

Thanks for the info.

The max time is supposed to be 10 weeks and the standard dealer delivery is 8 weeks. I dropped my car off in Munich and it was accidentally sent to Newark before my PCD. Even after they had to truck my car to the PCD my time from drop off to pickup was 7 weeks. Part of it depends on how long your car waits for a boat too. Definitely do PCD if you can it's well worth it.

This.

The only reason it takes longer is you can't schedule your appointment until the car hits the port, which is usually a couple weeks out. I couldn't imagine why someone wouldn't sacrifice 7-10 days extra in trade for the PCD experience. To each their own I suppose...

The guy you quoted said "weeks", and you're saying it's only 7-10 days. Which is it?

The car will get to the PC just as fast as it would get to your local dealer but when you can pick it up depends on how far out you schedule your appointment.

When you do ED, they will (almost never) schedule your PCD date until your car arrives stateside and clears customs. At that time it can be a few days or a few weeks. Sometimes they have openings sooner, other times they schedule you for two weeks out. Remember that there can end up being a cancellation and they can move you up.

My schedule is pretty flexible, so it'd likely be dependent on availability at the PC.

Ahh, this explains it.

So, is it worth potentially losing a few weeks with the car for the performance center delivery experience?

Just to be clear, the "adds weeks" in my original comment is the quoted 2 week add AFTER CLEARING CUSTOMS. Sometimes more, sometimes less and you don't know which you are going to get until long after you have to commit to doing it.

Whether its worth it or not is a personal value statement. Another benefit you get is that you have a longish trip home to use up some of your break in miles.

I'm doing an 18 day ED, so it should be past break-in before I get home!

Have you determined at which dealer you'll be doing your 1200 mi./2000 km Service Einfahrkontrolle ("running-in service") as they call it in Germany. We did ours at BMW Neiderlassung Stuttgart after spending three nights in Merano, IT, and 2 nights in Grindewald, Switzerland, arriving in Stuttgart the night before our service on Friday, May 20. Turned over 2000 km a few kilometers outside Stuttgart. We dropped our cars off at the dealership first thing in the morning, then took public transit to the Porsche Museum and the Mercedes-Benz Museum. The cars were ready late afternoon.

If you're not already aware, you need to pay for the service and submit reimbursement through your dealer after you return home. Mine cost €387.76. We returned from our trip on Saturday, May 28, and I got the reimbursement check for $435.80 from my dealer on June 13.

We're still planning (ED is in June), but I think Munich, Stuttgart, Black Forest, Switzerland, Northern Italy, Monaco, Nice, France, Nurburging, Amsterdam, Bremerhaven. I'll post up a thread once we have it a bit more locked down, because I'd love some feedback!

Thanks for the heads up! I should probably figure out where I'll be in the trip and make sure to schedule that in advance. Did you schedule the service, or just take it in once you hit 1200 miles?

That's quite a bit of driving - make sure to take time to enjoy some of the scenery! Looking forward to seeing more details...

When you make your appointment, the dealer will need your VIN to schedule your service.

We're excited! Nothing is set in stone, so if we decide to stay somewhere a bit longer, we will.

Thanks for the service scheduling info!
