i just bought the $100 *.bin file solution from a Russian site. When I get home today I will try it and see if it works. Hopefully it survives ISTEP updates.

I have received the bin file already via e-mail if you want a copy to try to see what is going on in there.... not sure what program i should use to edit the file with, but im sure any hex editor should suffice.

Can you share the method you are aware of for ID5 VIM? I remember reading a few years ago of HU modifications through ftp access to the HU, but never really educated myself on the process.

hi, I'm interested how that Russian coding went? I have tried coding ID5 and just can't seem to unlock video in motion. What was your result?

To the last three posters, you have absolutely no idea how complicated the process and what the "Russians" are doing... (me neither, I just know a bit and a hex editor won't do jack at all!) If VIM is that important to you, just buy the unlock.

Yep, NBT Evo is indeed "a whole new world", and the folks that did this USB VIM unlock solution have probably some HU insider info...and are really smart.

can you tell me more about this VIM unlock. Is this 1 size fits all? or it only applies to 1 vehicle? where can it be purchased?

I have not purchased or used that product as I have coded my HU-NBT (NBT Evo can be coded for max ~63kph) and honestly don't care for VIM, if you want more info google and check their website.

All of the HU_NBT(2) examples I've read on here were people with ID5. My MY2016 F80 has the HU_NBT(2) unit but is running ID4. Will I be able to code DVD-in-motion without speed limits?

Update: HU_NBT(2) + ID4 = success. Worked on the first try using these settings.

3006 → SPEEDLOCK_X_KMH_MAX werte = FF
3006 → SPEEDLOCK_X_KMH_MIN werte = FF
3000 → VIDEO_HANDBRAKE set to: nicht_aktiv
3000 → VIDEO_FRONT_LOCKED set to: nicht_aktiv
3000 → VIDEO_SPEEDLOCK_CONDITION set to: none=00

You are missing SPEEDLOCK_SPEEDVALUE_MIN/MAX.

hmm. Maybe I changed both without realizing it then. Whatever I did, it works. Tested up to 70mph.

I'll look at what I did in E-sys and post back.

My Launcher cheat codes include changes for ID4++ & ID5. But, if it worked, that is all that matters.

Checked the car again. It appears that SPEEDLOCK_SPEEDVALUE_MIN/MAX can be left at stock values for ID4 regardless of the actual head unit ECU model.

Edit: this is wrong. See follow up post.

No publicly available solution for VIM on ID5/ID6 past 63 kph. There are paid options as well as potentially free in the works.

Turns out this may be necessary. Without editing those I can start video while stationary and drive to whatever speed I want, but I cannot start the video if I'm already driving.

I've seen multiple posts, is there one specific set of cheat codes that I can refer to? I'm fine with up to 63 kph.

SPEEDLOCK_X_KMH_MAX werte = FF
SPEEDLOCK_X_KMH_MIN werte = FF
VIDEO_HANDBRAKE set to: nicht_aktiv
VIDEO_FRONT_LOCKED set to: nicht_aktiv
VIDEO_SPEEDLOCK_CONDITION set to: none=00
SPEEDLOCK_SPEEDVALUE_MIN: Werte = 1F
SPEEDLOCK_SPEEDVALUE_MAX: Werte = 3F

That should work on NBT2/id5+6; the last two are the differences from older versions without the 63kph cap.

Coding Made Easier (Cheat Codes in E-Sys Launcher)
  • Use mine and you will have codes. Note, there are two different ones listed: one for ID4 and second for ID5.
  • If you do not have Pro Launcher, then you can manually pull updates from GitHub

Ok i'm confused. This looks like a simpler version of doing this? But your footnote says if I don't have Pro Launcher, then manually pull updates? I'm lost.

Also, this is editing the CAFD files. After that, do I need to Activate FDA and Code FDL?

Pro Launcher has extra tools & settings, including ability to sync with Github. However, from a end-user perspective, once launched, E-sys will essentially look the same.

Therefore, if you have Launcher Pro, use "update" button in Author selection window. If not, you can manually download latest from same Github source.

Cheat Codes apply the necessary FDL changes. If, in doubt, you should always select "Review" to confirm desired changes (for a myriad of reasons) as well as can still search same funktions to confirm changes made. Then, yes, you still must save them in FDL-Editor as well as proceed as always (ie activate --> "Code FDL").

Use the search function in the FDL section of E-Sys. Manually hunting them down is not the most efficient use of time when hunting down parameters to change.

I could find them, but it's a bit of a fool's errand unless crafting up a cheat code xml file imho.

Let me know if you need a screenshot of which search I'm referring to. It should be one of only two, the other being a cheat code search in the lower right quadrant of the screen. The one you want is in the upper left.
