Specifically with half that RAM of the one later installed from 07/16 onward for 2017 models, 2GB vs 4GB iirc, which is apparently "necessary" to run CarPlay with stability.

NBT2 EVO was designed exclusively for G-Series cars with BDC and ATM Modules. NBT2 "Rueko" stands for NBT2 "Legacy" and is a sort of hybrid unit intended to work in older Fxx with different car architecture like FEM/ZGW/CAS/FRM, and it includes both ID4 (2 Gb) and ID5 (4 Gb) versions.

Hey packetpilot , I might have f***ed up...

I have a 2016 M4 built in April 2016.

The dealer updated my i-Step to F020-17-03-502 and I know I have HU_NBT2.
The CAFD version is now CAFD_00001EF6_006_018_016.

I did some coding and tried to enable id6_light. Well, it didn't work as I still see the id5_plus_plus but the navigation stopped working... It's asking for a USB certificate or something like that...

I didn't think this little trick would brick my navigation...

Do you have an idea how to recover from this mistake?

I assume you've tried going back in and resetting the code to id5_plus_plus?

Edit: Whoops! I failed to note that you probably didn't even start with iDrive 5!

If that doesn't work, have you tried VO-coding the ICU back to the initial state ("code", not "code defaults"!!!)?

How do you have iDrive 5 in a 16? Shouldn't it be 4? Did I miss where I could upgrade to 5 in my 16?

You cannot go from ID4 to ID5 and much less to ID6.

Is there a way to change out the 5series G30 picture on the main screen with a 3series model? Not sure if a F80 is available, but maybe at least a F30? Should be a coding parameter, but after a first search, i found nothing applicable.

In the deeper car settings the pictures are correct, but not in the main menu...

Depending on your software version, February and April releases came with additional chassis images.

CAFD_00001EF6_006_018_014 for a 6/16 build f80 with idrive 5.0 onboard.

Doesn't have HMI_ID_VERSION option available, if dealer upgrade to latest istep CAFD_00001EF6_006_018_016, am I able to change to idrver 6 light?
