Who has actually read their owners manual?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So I'm one of those people who will take a new car home and that night I'll be reading the owners manual from start to finish before I go to bed. It gives me an advantage when days or weeks or even months later I come across something in my new vehicle that boggles me.

I wonder how many here have actually read their owner manual? I ask because I see some very interesting questions pop up on the board sometimes and I just wonder...

I did, coming from an Audi and this car is loaded with tech. Doesn't hurt to do some leisure reading!

Yes, I obviously didnt retain it all, but it certainly has helped understanding some of nuances of the M3.

I always read the manual for anything I buy. I'm a techie guy and even I can't possibly know all of the features that aren't well known unless I do. I also have the PDF version of my manual on my laptop and my tablet, which is way easier to reference and find things. Then there's the version in the car which is pretty handy when you're on the road.

It sure beats coming here and asking stupid questions (yes, Virginia, there are stupid questions) that can easily be answered by looking in the manual, and then getting someone posting !

I thought I did, but then learned from SD on another thread that there is some bizarrely complex way to make the windshield wipers stay up.

Every time I buy a new car, I tell myself I'm going to read the manual. But then all I want to do is drive the car and I end up learning the car bit by bit as I drive it. To this day, and 20+ cars in, I haven't read a single one.

I'm reading my manual now. It gives me something to do until my M4 is delivered.

I pretty sure most people on this forum had already read the manual before getting the car.

I read it instead of reading other things while home on the throne.

A non-traditional approach rather than the usual comic books.

Just to add to what I posted above: the PDF version of the Owners Manuals for nearly every model are available online at https://www.bmwusa.com/owners-manuals.html. Unless you're the kind of buyer who gets up on a Saturday and suddenly decides to drive to the nearest BMW center and buy a new BMW, you probably have spent weeks or months planning your purchase. If you decided to order one, or order one and do Euro Delivery, you have lots of time to get acquainted with the PDF version of your Owner's Manual before you even take delivery of your car. You can read it on your laptop, your tablet, or your phone.

And don't forget about the thread "What did you learn or discover about your M3/M4 today?" that is currently at 88 pages. Pretty obvious from that thread how many people there are who have never read their manual.

Yes. Read it before I picked up the car and then again while sitting in my driveway.

How else are you going to learn how to change your wiper blades

I read the parts that aren't common sense, or about any new features.

There was a time on this forum when the manual was in hot demand and you had to have VIN to look at it (and there weren't that many). ciaranob was nice enough to help me, but it was a pretty exclusive publication for awhile there

I always read the owner's manual of every car I own, maybe I'm just that structured and want to learn everything about my car!
