Carbon Fiber Chip Repair

So I love the carbon fiber front end and mirror caps; however, how do you repair chips? Is there a specific color to use or just clear? Any help would be appreciated.

I fixed a chip in my roof. I think the attached pictures show the process.

You have to overfill while the epoxy is wet/uncured. As it cures, the epoxy shrinks. Once cured you can use abrasives to level the fix and then polish it out to gloss again. I don't show the leveling and polishing here. It is rather simple to do.

So just like any other paint chip, except you're just using clear and not a color match?

Woodengun what products did you use to level and polish the epoxy?

I use 3M 1000 and then 1500 grit on a block and then go to M105.

My car is beat to crap from daily and track driving and is not a show car. I'd be more careful with a show car.

Touch up will always show, so don't expect it to be perfect, but it will look a ton better!

fill the chip with layers, not one big glob of paint. This might be 3 layers to build up, then lay on the 2 layers of clear, then sand and polish. Just make sure the paint is dry and hardened, otherwise the sanding and polishing will just rip it right out.

Of you are dealing with just the carbon clear, use clear only. As long as the carbon is still fine, it should turn out 80-90% better

Sadly I had to repair a small one yesterday and I just used a lacquer touch up kit I had in my garage, let it cure partly and then machined it flat.

Looks ok but reckon the CF has been compromised under it.

This is exactly why I'm getting my roof wrapped in Xpel. Chips on paint are easy to repair but if the CF weave is damaged nothing short of replacing the whole roof will make it look like new again
