Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 sacrilegious?
I couldn't find castrol edge professional 5W-30 but I found pennzoil platinum 5W-30 so I bought that. I googled and read a blog that bmw uses pennzoil now and it was pertaining to an oil change on an M4. So are M gods going to smite me for using this oil in my M4? I don't see LL-01 on the bottle but I'll change the oil 5-7k miles..

Instead Buy Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w-30 or 5w-40 they both carry the LL-01 certification
IMO they are both a better oils than Castrol Edge...that's a whole other discussion that is better saved for bobtheoilguy forum FYI Pennzoil is now the contracted supplier of genuine BMW Engine Oils, no longer Castrol Last edited by kitesurfer; 09-10-2017 at 02:13 PM.. |

Only the following meeting BMW specs: BMW LL-01 (SAE 5W-30, SAE 5W-40) BMW LL-04 (L SAE 5W-30) If you're looking for a 40 weight oil, Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w-40 is significantly more expensive than the Castrol Edge 0w-40 on a per quart basis. I'm changing my oil almost every 5000-7500 miles so that's well under the OCI. I would just go with the less expensive oil that meets BMW specifications as long as you're changing well within the specified OCI. |

I would spend a few more Dollars and choose Pennzoil Euro oils over Castrol. Oil is the Cheapest Fluid in a engine and yet the most important.... These Pennzoil oils were developed to meet Ferrari/Fiat specs through shell's partnership with Ferrari more specifically developed for Ferrari's High Reving Turbo Engines. They also demonstrate a score of HTHS = 3.6 & Noack = 6.2 % / both better then Castrol.
I agree with the poster above and would not run a non LL-01 oil unless there was no other choice and it was for a short period |

If you're changing your oil every 5-7k I wouldn't put too much thought into it as long you're using full synthetic and the correct weight. I use the Mobil 1 0-40 in between the dealer changes for what it's worth. $24 for a 5 qt jug at Walmart or amazon prime. Hard to beat.

I haven't noticed any change in my oil temp. I'll run this oil for a short period of time then change over to pennzoil 5W-30 euro blend. Being in Germany I bet it's easy to find on the economy. Thanks for the responses!
