I believe that's called a spat guard. Porsches have it. I did mine in black.

It's on my M4. I noticed it the day after buying it while the sun was out. Don't like it. Don't like it one bit.

Had my M4 for 7 months now, and to be honest, I hardly notice they're there anymore. Might be because my car's black. I can say that they have saved the paintwork from quite a few scratches from stones and overhanging foliage, so they're definitely staying on!

I've never heard of this before, and I wonder whether the front wheels really protrude any more than other cars? Have any existing owners had any problems of this nature?
I love it when sales guys make shit up as they go along. I never ask about any cars I test drive anymore. I just want them to hand over the keys and let me do my business. If I have questions about the car's functionality I rather read the manual online.

The dirt collected along the seam is not going to be a problem for darker colors, but with white it looks really bad.
My detailer told me to use a soft toothbrush along the edges with some soap.

Yeah, and that tiny film won't protect anything above it so I had my shop installed a larger piece following the crease line.

Yeah it's way too small in my opinion. I'm picking up all kinds of tiny rock chips above the patch on my F80 fenders and it's pissing me off. If it had been 4 inches higher I wouldn't have a single chip yet. BMW clearly didn't test anywhere there were rocks on the road though. This is proved by the rear brake screeching sound they could have avoided with a mild bend in the rotor shields.

Yeah I need to touch up these pin point chips I've picked up and apply a film. So that's not a precut film like xpel? What's it called and what's it cost?

If your chips aren't huge i would recommend doing a good polish to hide it a bit rather than touching up as that would most more than likely leave blobs of paint. Once the film is on you won't even notice chips.

That is not a pre cut film and the film is Suntek. My buddy did it for me for $300 both sides. Seems fair as that will save you a ton's of headache in the long run.

I was wondering if the film would hide small chips at all so thanks for that input.

I was going to try this stuff since it doesn't seem to leave a blob at all. Every heard of it or seen it used? http://www.drcolorchip.com/

I just took delivery of a new m4 and mine had this as well. A nice stance in the sunlight made it very apparent. I love its purpose, and the fact that it's necessary at all, but hate it's thickness and dirt line. As so many others have said, I'm getting mine removed and replaced with Xpel. I've heard the difference between this and factory installed protective film is night and day (literally if you have an Alpine White m4, too )

I took it off of my AW car. It was already looking discolored and its way too small. I'm riding around unprotected right now. If I were to apply a film, it would cover a much larger area.

For anyone that's removed the stock film how did you do it? I personally hate the look of it and want to have it removed. I think it's way too visible and takes away from the lines of the car.

Use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat up the adhesive on the film then slowly peel it off. Although it doesn't look as great but it does serves a useful purpose and you should think twice about removing it.

I had mine removed today before doing a full detail. It doesn't come off easily. I was watching a guy wrestle with it for good 10 minutes using a heat gun.

I decided to remove it because it was only on one side, and I think the front is more susceptible to damage anyway, and it has no protection. When I asked the dealer about it, he said they forgot to remove it before handover.

Like I said above, mine already bears the signs of stones and foliage marks, so definitely staying on. Then again, I don't really notice them on my black paint - I could see why this might be more of an issue on a white car!

clear film from the factory?

just noticed there are two pieces of clear film on the lower rear quarter panels/front of the rear fender..

now is this a pieces of film the dealer forgot to remove...or is BMW giving me some extra protection...

I've had the car for 4 days now and honestly never saw or noticed it until my daughter pointed it out...

yes I did a thorough walk around (or thought I did) at delivery...
