Intake Opinions

Hey guys. New poster here, but have been scouring the forum for a while now and finally decided to post for some help. I was able to get through choosing an exhaust based on everything I've read/heard, but now I'm struggling choosing an intake. Here's what I know from what I've read:

1. I now understand minimal gains if any from an intake. Mainly for looks/sound.
2. I've already done the charcoal delete but looking for a bit more.
3. Looking for a deep sounding intake, if possible. One post I read noted that the loudest will be any front facing (Max PSI/VRSF) but from the videos I've heard, they sound very..."whistley" if that makes sense. You only hear the turbos spooling but no deep sound. If anyone has personal experience with front facing and can debunk this, I'd love your input.

Here is what I'm leaning towards:

1. Injen with the heat shield (do I really need to worry about heat from the engine bay?) If not, I'm thinking BMS or the like

2. BMS...see note above...

3. Front facing intake if the sound is aggressive/deep (either Max PSI or VSRF..yes I've seen some of the concerns about the VSRF fitment issues, but since they are $300 cheaper, i'm hoping to get lucky haha).

Again, main thing i'm looking for here is something that sounds aggressive/deep and not too ricey...

Oh yea, the exhaust I went with is the AWE non-res and it's getting installed this Friday. CAN'T WAIT!

I have Eventuri intakes with the updated filter design paired with an AWE Non-Res track exhaust. It sounds pretty deep and doesn't have any whistling noise (assuming my exhaust is drowning that out).

Eventuri is the best intake imo.

Hi!

I chose to purchase and run SSR Performance for 2 simple reasons.

First, the induction noise is addicting; specially if you have a manual vehicle. It's LOUD
Second, I kept having issues with CEL showing up with VRSF and BMS. SSR uses a MESH filter that so far has prevented CEL issues. Also VRSF finish and fitment was a problem.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am running an AWE Non RES as well. The intakes are very noticeable even though the car became substantially louder with the AWE system

Here are some videos ( please use headphones )

If you have any questions please message me I can help you source some.

We offer BMS, Injen & VRSF.
All three are very popular options.

VRSF is obviously a different design that has its pros but requires more labor.
if you do not mind the additional install time, go with VRSF.

If you are only looking for an easy install BMS or Injen is the way to go.
You do not need the heat shield for any performance gains.
Biggest difference between the 2 is that Injen does sound louder

Thanks for the response! By injen being louder, is that a more deep/aggressive loud or "whoosh" loud? haha.

From what you've seen, does it seem like VRSF fitment issues have been resolved? Also, more or less whoosh sounding than injen? Reason I ask is bc I've heard a few VRSF sound clips, but none for injen.

You should ask VRSF direct if they did any revision on the intake but we have not had issues

That's a completely subjective statement dependent entirely on the objectives of the purchaser.

There is no "truth" to it. It's merely opinion.

There are plenty of vendors that would love to take your money. Good luck.

People are free to spend their money on what they choose.

If people only made sensible purchase choices in relation to these cars, you would be unemployed. Something to ponder.

Hey,

Why are you trolling/hating on a sound suggestion?!? The fact alone of Toms' post should
lead one to admire his integrity as a vendor!

If you scan the forum, It is resoundingly accepted that Intakes, in and of themselves, as
a mod., are eye candy.

Sure, some may affect the sound of the actual air coming in and some are more beautiful
than others ("Eventuri" - Gorgeous!) but, none add any marked improvement in Hp.

An ideal "Cold(-er) Air Intake" should not even have its' filter elements in the engine bay!
These should be up front. Where the air meets the car. Thus, avoiding any colateral and
counterproductive radiant heat from the engine itself.

Good examples of these are:

* "MSR"
* "Maximum PSI"

Both, Made in USA by the way.

Otherwise, as previously suggested, "BMC" drop ins and removal of the charcoal filters
is the way to go

Cheers!

Are you serious mate? Trolling ?

Mods are performed for many reasons. Performance, aesthetics, noise etc.

Intakes have zero performance gain. Fact.

But Tom fails to comprehend that many will pick an intake for sound, some for engine bay appearance etc.

He has no business criticising anyone for how they choose to spend their money. And ramming the drop in filter line completely misses the point.

I went eventuri for sound and looks. Not for horse power and performance. A "drop in filter" achieves neither of those things for me. So the argument about performance is irrelevant.

And the fact remains - vendors would go broke if we made sound financial decisions all the time. Cars are about passion and fun and enjoyment.

Why buy a 3K lip when you can get a brushed metal one for $500?

Hey,

Ok., … and yet, you continue.

Albeit, it's not my argument to comment on, I don't believe Tom was, "criticising" anyone nor "ramming" anything.

Oh! I do believe "EAS" also sell "Eventuri".

Cheers!

"Many vendors happy to take your money" - the tone of that is pretty clear.

Nonetheless. I've made my point.

Time to stop wasting my time.

Intake systems are mostly for sound but i guess 1 or 2 extra kw might matter to those going all out.
