Latest software update

When was the latest software update?
Any improvements ?
Can you just ask to be updated or do they wait for the next service?
I have a 8/17 build but I believe there was an update in 11/17

I can’t recommend updating. I had my 2017 CP DCT M3 updated to the 11/17 integration and it made the DCT more jerky especially in D1 comfort mode. Is there a reason your wanting to upgrade the software?

03/18 is the newest.

People says it makes the exhaust more quiet.

My DCT got very jerky after the match 2018 update. Also car feels more sluggish in the lower rev range.

Sure, just tell the dealer not to update your car.. Besides, most dealers charge a fee to update. I never asked to be updated in November and now I’m paying the price... there is one major caveat however, and that is software updates are required in certain circumstances when you have idrive issues or any other number of issues.

To sort of derail my own anti update stance. I have noticed vast improvements in my car as well. S2, S3, D2, and D3 are much easier to drive in. Also, my steering always seemed to pull to the right (Not alignment related). That is no longer the case, tracks straight as an arrow. Some claim less sound from exhaust.. I sort of think sports plus is less loud and sport mode is now louder or as loud as sports plus was. Could be my imagination though. However, this update has absolutely ruined D1 which was always my go to bumper to bumper traffic, shopping center/parking lot, and slow neighborhood mode. It’s now painfully clunky, jerky, and noisy. Sucks for living in a big city where these are common. I just changed my driving style and am now almost a 100% manual mode driver.

If required in a service bulletin then you have to update, if it’s just an update and not a TBS then no. The former is always free, the latter you pay.

You have to request it and they'll only do it if there is an issue you are having where the new firmware addresses it. Otherwise I believe it's $175 to force them to do it upon request.

Usually it is NOT needed and can introduce more limitation; rarely a benefit. Last good benefit update was the m view HUD where they made the actual rpms blue instead of white which was hard to see from personal experience

Mine is a '15 and I got that update in 2016 for $200. They can't even tell me what it really did besides the HUD color change, which was my goal but would be nice to know for $200.
