When did you notice your first rock chip?

What's up guys,

I'm taking delivery of my 18 M4 tomorrow but won't be able to get the clear bra for a couple weeks. It's azurite black metallic and I'm picking it up at a dealer that's three hours away. That means 3 hours on the freeway....

I'm worried that I'll have a few rock chips by the time I get it to my clear bra installer.
SO are rock chips really that common?
Are they inevitable and should I just not drive it until it's protected?
Is it more apparent on darker color paint?

Any and all advice is appreciated!

I pick up my M2 some time next week, and I've scheduled to have Xpel Clear Bra installed about a week later, on April 3rd.

There is something Xpel makes, a film which is a temporary solution for drivers planning to take their car to the track, or simply want to protect their car for a few days... it seems to only cost about $150 or so, and is easily removed when you're ready to have the clear bra installed.

Might be worth checking out, question is if you can find it in time?

Congrats on getting your new car!

3 months after I picked it up.

I was sad for about 2 seconds, and then moved on with life.

Noticed several on my new car prep/detail about 100 miles after picking it up. I didn't plan on the clear bra anyway so worse will happen, but I was at least hoping to get a good coat of wax on it before seeing my first.

I then moved on to start to detail the F15 a picked up in November and hadn't cared about a new car prep until now, the front bumper was so bad front rocks and salt I contemplated re-spraying it, so I did what any new F80 owner would do... got back into the F80 and opened it up on some mountain roads then played with launch control for a while, forgetting about both issues... until now...

Going to grab my keys and relieve some stress... suggest you do the same.

After about 2-3K miles on the lower part of my driver side door. Then, more on the rear fender, etc. Inevitable, I'm afraid.

Neglected to wrap the rocker panels. There are about a thousand or so tiny chips on them. Only 5k miles on the car

It's inevitable and they're pretty much unavoidable to an extent. No PPF here but I do have a bottle of Dr Color Chip. It takes 5 minutes to touch up a small chip here and there and it really settles my nerves when they become far less noticeable to the naked eye.

I have like 30 fucking chips already and it's only been 5 months.

NJ is such a shithole. It's like they pour loose gravel onto the streets.

We have relatively clean roads here but there is one fwy that's right next to a quarry and cement truck depot. I go around it now even through it's more direct path to work. #xpelistotallyworthit

First chip on the hood appeared within 200 miles. Oh well, it's just a car. That's what I get by not paying for PPF.

2 months into ownership, took a chunk of cement a car threw up at my front bumper cover. I wanted to kill someone, but I quickly realized, it's a car, it will get nicked and bumped. Since then I have a lot of rock chips on the bumper, on the hood and the rear quarters, where the sticker should go further up.

I see the retards filling up potholes and all the residue going into people cars, unbelievable. Saw them doing it while raining the other day

^^ This. Except I think my first was within the first month of ownership. I think I have accumulated a couple more since.

Daily driving.
