I did M4 ED last September and had the 1200 mile service done in Austria. I warned them about the plugs and specifically told the service manager what diff fluid was to be used for USA cars. I get the bill and the first thing I see is that they put in the diff: "SYNT Castrol Syntrans 75W-90 1,5". I tell the manager that isn't right. He goes to the back room and comes out later and says he checked and that it is correct for the M4. I'm headed to Munich to drop the car off so I'm not to concerned about some mileage with this fluid. I give Las Vegas BMW a heads up when the car finally arrives. But when I went to pick up the car, they said that 75-90 is OK. I have to wonder if they have any idea if the fluid from Austria is even an XJ spec for limited slip diffs. I'm still trying to get this sorted out. Does anyone know if Castrol Syntrans is even for limited slip diffs???
Thanks, Terry |

I am a little worried about that myself. Hoping someone who has already done this service with EVERYTHING that is supposed to be included can scan their invoice.

Since you paid for the service while on ED, I bet you could have your dealer do this service for free. Even if they can't... it would be worth the peace for mind. Dack

Ok, Dackel, once again thank you for this thread and for your patience. I have two more questions... As you have written above all things what should be done on 2000 km service, I have question 1 -> Are those parts (Oil filter: 11 42 7 566 327; Screw for engine oil pan/plug: 11 11 7 849 396; Screw for differential: 33 11 7 525 064; Oil engine quantity (6,5l) of 6.9 quarts. BMW LL4 engine oil: 83 21 0 398 504 (0w-40) or 83 21 0 398 507 (5w-30); Oil for differential/LSD (1l quantity): 83 22 9 405 462 (Castrol SAF-XJ ) API GL5, 75w140)) all unique for all BMW M4s (I mean is this procedure with those parts and theirs part numbers same for European and American M4s). I am from Croatia, but I bought M4 in Munchen, and had delivery at BMW Welt. I have to do 2000 km service (I plan to do it in my country). Are those parts from 1st thread correct for all M4 cars (because someone here posted that some stuff is different for American M4s)? I know you mentioned Electronice Teile Katalog, but I ask just to be sure (and calm). You said that oil in DCT is not changed at first service so here is my question 2 -> When does the oil in DCT need to be changed? Once again thank you very much! Ivan |

Has anyone that has come back after having the service done during ED been able to get the refund or at least submit for a refund?

I believe the part are the same for US and Euro cars. The only part numbers that will be different are oil(fluids) part numbers... bc some dealers buy from BMW AG(parts system) and some (most)buy in bulk locally and make up their own "billing" part numbers on your service invoice. The filters and screws(plugs) should be same parts for US and EU cars. Which part numbers(from other members) that were posted were different on US spec car? Can you show me the user's posting? ZF makes the automatic that bmw uses on its non M cars. While BMW says its a lifetime oil/fluid... ZF says to change it at 80K kms. So thats what I would go with on the DCT as well. I have also asked a friend of mine who works at BMW AG about this... I won't hear back from him until next week, so when I know - I will post something here. Dackel

I'm getting my 1200 mile break-in service done next week and was wondering if anyone has an up-to-date list of what needs to be done? I wan't to make sure my dealer doesn't cut any corners.

With that difference I thought about oil. You posted here. Also, it is mentioned here. Can you tell me what is difference bethween LL1 and LL4 oil? I asume that LL4 is used in Europe, while LL1 is used in USA. And I was looking a little and find a difference... In the OP it is written that oil filter is 11 42 7 566 327, but on the picture it is 11 42 7 854 445 (I marked it red). |

You need a special oil to prevent scoring of the internal engine parts due to fuel types. BMW in the early 1990's BMW's had cylinder bore wear due to the fuels used in the US market. BMW was replacing complete engines due to sealing issues with the piston ring/bore sealing. Since then BMW specs special Long Life(LL) oil for each market. LL1 = USA (high sulfur fuels) LL4 = Europe (low sulfur fuels) Quote:
Oops! Looks like I goofed!! The correct oil filter for any F8x M3/M4 is: 11 42 7 854 445 I have corrected my original post. Danke. Bellow you can see in RealOEM.com that the 11 42 7 854 445 is the correct oil filter. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref....+42+7+854+445+ http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=11&fg=30&hl=3 Dackel

Thank you for explanation.
What do you think we buy oil for engine, oil for diff, and plugs for engine and diff, and go on 2000 km service with all that. Whether is worth? I can imagine look of their faces in service if I come with all that stuff. |

Hi Dackelone once again,
I also checked correct part numbers for screw plug which is 11 13 7 535 106 and gasket ring which is 07 11 9 963 132 (check picture below and what's marked red). You have written in OP: Screw for engine oil pan/plug: 11 11 7 849 396. I think this is the p/n from RealOEM.com which is old or not correct, because those part numbers which I wrote are from BMW WebETK. |

Hi Dack,
Just one question... What is the difference between diff. oil SAF-XO MSP/A (83229405462) and SAF-XJ FM booster (83222282583)? My dealer gave me offer for 2000 km service and on list it is included 83229405462 MSP/A (1L). Is that ok? Because if I remember you have written here that XJ needs to be used. Here are diff. oils from BMW WebETK:
