It's time to retire the e93 as a daily driver. I'm doing some additional upgrades and when finished it should be about 650-700RWHP. I'm looking for a new DD. I'm partial to convertibles since I live in FL but I'm keeping this one so maybe it's time for a hardtop. I'm liking M4 but M3 might be more practical.

What I'd like to know:

Any real performance differences between 3&4? Any common problems? Any complaints?

Thx

No, same power train. M3 slightly taller.
Just need to decide if you need four doors, or two.

Not sure if 600 hp will help you with stop and go on I-4.

425 hp is plenty (probably closer to 475 stock, BMW under-rating).

Kids, carpool passengers, ladies of the night may appreciate the four doors of the F80.

If you've already got a fun toy in the garage anyway and will be driving for hours each day why not get an eco minded highway barge like the 535d

Not sure what an M car would do for you in that scenario other than have a more impressive badge when you arrive. (in which case, why not M5, since 3 is a higher number than 3 or 4, or an Alpina B7)

Go M3, if you are keeping the e93 vert, the 4 doors will be something different. No differences in performance at all. And, I'm biased, but I personally think the M3 looks more aggressive and more aesthetic than the M4. Maybe it's because this is the first generation where the 4-door really takes on a personality of its own vs. its 2-door brother.

Best of luck both with the new car and the e93 build!

If you want sporty+ power+luxury interior within the M line up, doesn't get much better than an M6 GC or alpina b6.

M3! More practical, rarer (in the UK anyways) much better looking, and has the iconic M3 badge

M3 is more practical. Since it is 4 doors.

However, I prefer the M4 for the outline of the body and the general sense of it being lower. Also I already have a 3 series so... kinda a no for me to get M3.
