M4 doesn't give me the thrill the Holden Monaro GTS did
So when I was 19 years old (back in 2005), I had a 2003 Holden Monaro GTS which had the LS1 Corvette engine, 5.7L V8 with 328 BHP and 465NM of Torque
When I used to accelerate from a stand still to 100 KM/H. I felt my heart is racing / the excitement as if I was riding a fast roller coaster. Fast Forward to today (I'm 32 years old). I got a 2017 BMW M4 Convertible, it is fast, it reaches to very fast speeds 100KM/H++ very fast but I don't *feel* that same excitement, I don't feel like whoaaa like I did when I had my old Holden Monaro or like I felt when I was riding in a Dodge Challenger or Chevvy Corvette last year, those things make me almost piss in my pants from the acceleration. In paper, the M4 sounds more powerful than my old Holden Monaro but I just never feel that thrill, I tried both the Sports and Sports+ Throttle mode with the most aggressive gear shifts but still...... Is it the fact that those were V8 cars or what? Why am I not feeling that same *holy crap* feeling when I accelerate? The car is in MDM mode always by the way...... I dunno why but I am not as excited as I thought I would driving an M car...... |

Well the convertible doesn't help you any being a good 400lbs more you are carrying over the standard M3/4, and MDM mode, while less conservative than flat out TC/stability, it still intervenes too much.
Turn off all nannies and try again. If that doesn't do it, then I guess it's just your perspective. Sell it and get a Corvette, Camaro, one of the Hellcats or something like that. |

What's a Holden Monaro GTS anyway? Must be some sort of tricked out Camel we don't get here in the U.S.

In Australia, it's called the Holden Monaro GTS or Vauxhall Monaro In the US, it's called the Pontiac GTO. Same engine, same interior just diff. body styling |

Tolerance really sucks sometimes, I feel you. I sold my liter sport bike a couple of years ago and was driving a 435 at the time. The car felt slow as hell, and in a hope of having that feeling of speed again I bought the M. While it's quick, it's not even close.
I guess what I'm saying is buy a liter bike. I don't recall a single time I wanted for fear at the crack of the wrist. Much cheaper hobby anyway, as long as you ignore the injury/death factor lol. At least I have 4 doors for the kids now. |

I had an S2000 that ran mid 9s and trapped almost 150mph. I don't think there is a production car in the world that will ever be as exhilarating as that but I'm super excited to pick up the M4 this week. Going to be mundane compared to the Honda but doesn't mean can't enjoy the different experience

Honestly, I wonder how much this speaks to the composure of the M compared to something like the pontiac. The M just feels so solid to me, perhaps that's the difference and why it feels less exciting.

If I am not so thrilled by the M4, I wonder how would I feel in an E9x M3 which has even lesser torque |

I think the problem is the M4/3 get up to speed so quickly and without much fanfare, noise, vibration, etc. There really isn't that much sensation of speed.
When I punch it a little bit from a traffic light, I don't always feel like the car is accelerating that fast, but then I look in the rear view mirror and the car that was behind me is now a half mile back. A look at the speedo and I'm way over the limit and have to back off. Didn't really feel that fast, but that didn't mean I wasn't going fast. Same thing on the highway...when I'm driving 65 the car feels like it's loafing along barely moving. I can barely put any pressure on the accelerator to keep it at 65. If I get aggressive to pass, or switch lanes or whatever, I can get up to 80-90 mph in a blink of an eye without even realizing it until I glance down at the HUD or the speedo. BTW I drive with all the nannies on most of the time, so I'm sure the car feels more raw when they are all turned off. Not sure I really want to find out when driving in every day traffic. |

After the Pontiac brand was discontinued by GM, the 4-door sedan was sold in the US as the Chevrolet SS.

My first car was a 1.3 4cyl. Felt fun. Not fast (obviously), just fun. A good 10 years later I drove my nephew's.... Boring, dead, flat, gutless came to mind.

I had an 05 GTO (6.0L LS2) and while it was quick, my former F80 blew it away acceleration-wise and feel. The only thing better in the goat was the engine/exhaust sound.. the LS2 was an early drive-by-wire (the 5.7 from the 04 was cable-actuated) and the programming was not quite there. The turbo M felt like it had better throttle response as a result.
Still was a fun/rare car! Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
