I too have ordered a MT M3 and can't wait for it to get here(Might jump into a M4 MT that is in stock).

The fact that it is already(switch off rev match) in the system(sport+) tells me that BMW should be able to update the software to allow this to be done via the I-Drive.

My suggestion to every MT owner is to fill out the complete survey after your next service. There is usually a question in the survey that asks "Is there anything that BMW could change.......".

Tell them to update the software to allow "rev match" to be turned on/off via an option in the I-Drive.

Agree. Should be an option to deactivate it on demand from iDrive or something. I am sure coding will take care of that soon.

But aside from that small nag which I can absolutely live with, one of the best features I have seen and experienced on a manual transmission car in a long time. Plus, I can't heel toe anyway. I'm not a real race car driver. This car makes me both look good AND sound great!

Nobody can heel-toe initially--it just takes practice and time. Once the skill is learned, though, I think it's one of the most fun things about driving. Smoothly and simultaneously operating more controls than you have limbs while diving into a corner is good stuff!

The rev match is irritating. It's too slow to release throttle. And I bought the manual to do it all myself. I'm forced to drive in sport plus all the time, but what comes with that, it the twitchy throttle.

Heel toe just takes time, and once you get it, you don't even think about it.

Absolutely correct. Having to drive in Sport + all the time is a crazymaker.

Do you mean it gets jerky? I missed working for it (heel toe) so I put it in sport + for the first time and the throttle response and the car itself felt like it was jerking and not as smooth as sport and efficient for me. Can't someone develop some code or tune that will let us turn off rev matching independently??

I hate to sound like an idiot, but I've been driving my E92 M3 with 6MT for three years and don't understand what you all mean by grinding into second gear. TBH I still to this day struggle to drive off smoothly in first from a stop, but everything after that is great. And that's after three years of 18k miles/year driving in Bay Area 101 traffic.

For a normal drive off what's the ideal min. rev? Maybe I'm just doing it wrong...

Anyway I ordered my M4 with the 6MT, but I've been self-doubting because the E92 makes me feel like I'm a subpar manual driver (welp maybe I am).

i dont think i could do that ever...foot too big and fat size 12-13 wide shoes, just gets too clumsy..leg too stiff cant move it sideways...i just brake, then use same foot to blip, clutch, shift.

but now i feel like a pro with auto rev match...its awesome this car

Guys, any of you gone from a DCT car back to manual? If so, why? I'm having such a hard time deciding on which transmission.

6MT! 6MT! There's just too much fun going on here to be missing out on... if you're not annoyed by rowing your own gears that is.

yes i went from DCT to manual...DCT is cool and all, and super quick, but for me it just got boring as hell after the first year...i started wishing i had a manual...my two biggest issues with dct were the jerkiness when coasting to a stop (maybe fixed for new model, havent driven long enough) and not know what gear i was in, i had to constantly look down at the gauges to see...with manual u always know what gear youre in. also my dct had two malfunctions during first week of ownership so im a bit paranoid about long term ownership.

I had DCT in my E92, but missed driving manual so I went back to it with the F80. I can't say I have a strong preference for one over the other, or that I would absolutely pick manual over DCT on the next car. DCT is fantastic on the track, and also for the daily commute. It's the other times, where I'm having a bit of fun with the car on the road, that 6MT is more engaging to drive.

I do find the 6MT gearing to be a bit annoying during every day driving, particularly 1st and 2nd gear. I think those ratios were selected to optimize for 0-60 time over all else, and they're a bit short for normal driving. It's difficult to take off from a red light quickly without winding out the engine due to the time it takes to shift, so either I'm driving off slowly with someone riding my bumper, or winding the engine out signaling to the guy next to me that I want to race. With DCT this isn't a problem since you can rip through upshifts without lifting. Once you're in 3rd gear it isn't a concern anymore.

I had a 6MT e92 M3 and I thought that felt great especially coming from roadsters, but the M4 6MT is really an awesome box

So I couldn't help myself and jumped out of my M3 order because my dealer found a 6MT CF roof M4 locally that had all but one of the options I wanted including color combo. I was completely on the fence about 6MT/DCT and am glad I got the 6MT. I had the last year, last month of production E60 M5 with the SMG and loved it. I was just too paranoid about fixing it after the warranty, had I ordered it with the 6MT I would probably still have it.

I haven't daily driven a BMW manual since my E46 M3 cab, and understand the previous statement about starting off smoothly in 1st.

I know exactly what you mean. In the mornings when I'm warming the car up and cruising to get the oil temps up ppl are usually riding my ass and when I'm warmed up (it's always a civic or a evo for some reason) they're always revving or holding a low gear with their fart can exhaust

This happened to me the other day. Came out of work and some new Mustang wanted to race but my car wasn't warmed up enough, oh and not to mention I don't race on the streets.

Yeah, had a DCT E92, now 6MT F80. The DCT was nice, well done, loved the downshift blips, etc, but to me it got boring after a while. The 6MT on F8x is excellent and makes the car a lot more fun to drive.
