Will installing an aftermarket steering wheel void the warranty?

I looked and could not find an answer. Will installing an aftermarket steering wheel void the manufacturer / CPO warranty? Thanks in advance.

Any failure directly related to the steering eg electrics won't be covered. This would be very unlikely if installed properly.

Everything else unrelated should be covered under warranty under the law.

Yes if you spin your crank hub it won't be covered because they will know you were driving fast because you have a performance wheel. Mod at your own risk.

Say you install the new steering wheel and your airbags just opens up one day out of the blue. I think they'd blame it on your wheel installation and void warranty? Unless you get a BMW dealer to install it?

Sorry I know I'm not helping but I just thought about that scenario after exiting this thread. Then I came back here to post.

Get an OEM MP wheel.
They won’t ever question it.

Because they did not install it and you cannot proof that an official bmw shop install it since you have no invoice.

DIY or independent install is covered for 2 years in US on OEM BMW parts and found to be a malfunction within the part and not user/install error.

You part will not be covered by warranty in Australia if it's a DIY or independent install.

The warranty document clearly states must be installed by a BMW approved shop ie the dealer.

I am sorry but I find this really hard to believe that BMW is fine with people installing parts without loosing warranty as long as it’s OEM. A lot can go wrong with these installs. I am also referring to engine parts. I guess that you just mean the fact that they will never know who installed the parts. So if some amateur forgets to correctly torque some bolts and this would lead to a catastrophic failure it’s the fault of BMW? Or is this just an unethical lifepro tip?

Get mechanical OEM parts installed at a dealer - it doesn't make any sense to go to an independent.

Any issue with an oem part will not be rectified by a dealer unless it was installed at the dealership.

What benefit are you looking for OP? These days I switch between momo or sparco aftermarket wheel in my SM or Porsche OEM wheel in my street car and I can’t say it makes any difference at all, other than being able to get out of the SM easier due to the detachability.

Go with OEM electronic wheel if you want alcantara rim + gadget, or get a custom steering wheel cover if you want the alcantara feel (and get the tricolor M stripes in the 12 o clock position while you are at it)
