Alpine vs Mineral?
Choosing a colour for the new M3 has been difficult and I've changed my order twice already. The problem is that I haven't seen some of the colours in person so have been relying on other peoples descriptions/opinions.
I am now set on White and my current order is for Alpine. I have read several threads but still cannot get a gut feeling on Mineral White- I'm on the fence. Lots seem to love it, many say it's dull and a 'dirty white' , some say it's more luxurious than sporty etc etc. The truth is my last M3 was Alpine and I would like a change however I am currently playing it safe and going with what I know looks good. If anyone has seen MW then I would be grateful of your input. Any AW owners wished they'd got MW after seeing it or vice versa??? Any opinions from people who have seen MW would be very much appreciated - there is no chance of me seeing the colour in person by the way - working abroad until my car is due to be delivered. Might still be one more colour change on my order.......

I prefer the flat, alpine white. seems sportier to me. the metallic seems too Cadillac/Lexus to me - reminds me of an Escalade. those are just my preconceptions - go with what you like.
can't you find a MW to look at in person? |

What did you like about it and did it look more luxurious than sporting?

I have seen both in person and I like MW better. Not sure either is more sporting as I don't find white that sporty in general. I think both lose aggression when compared to darker color cars. More classy than sporty.

It might be of use to read this thread of the AW vs MW from the E9x M3 forum.

I own 2 AW (E92 & F25) and I really like the color. I actually considered MW on the E92 because with the metallic flakes built into it, the paint looks different under different lighting and angles. At the end I choose AW because I was too cheap to pay for metallic paint lol.
However this time around I am considering MW for the M4 or Sakhir Orange. MW is more luxurious looking due to the metallic flakes. I am wanting to change it up but I am leaning towards Sakhir Orange because I want a M specific color this time around. |

MW cars are rare in my experience. I'm leaning towards MW myself or AW. I went to both the large dealers in my area, one had zero MW cars across all models. The CA told me that they never order MW since most customers can't see the difference and will not pay the extra metallic fee. He also made the silly spiel about BMWs being sporty and MW is a feminine color. The other dealer had two MW cars whereof one being an F30. It was my favorite color among the F30 among the 30 or so cars on the lot. One caveat though the cars were indoors. I've not studied MW closely outdoors yet.
What I particularly liked about MW vs AW was that it removes the "appliance" look altogether and there is no yellow hue at all. AW is unfortunately a bit warm compared to real white colors as Audi's white. And most AW F30's are really boring looking in my eyes. That said I like AW as a color enough and I also heard that MW takes on a milky look in some light which I'm not sure I will like. I like my Jerez Black car but it does has a slight haze to it in some light which I don't like. Not an easy choice. I did not find MW being feminine or less sporty than AW on the F30. |

Its really a personal thing I have Alpine and it always cleans up bright and shows the lines well. The mineral has more depth but a little more bone like in color. I had flat paint now I want metallic. But I am not going with MW because they are too similar in color compared to what I already have

Like any color, a description from us wont help. You really need to see it in person. I'm starting to like YMB more and more but cant pull the trigger on one unless I get a chance to see it. Hoping I can get to the Philly show this weekend and check it out.
I like MW, it has a more interesting look to it. Kind of a satin/frozen pearlish look. Looks nice at night under street lights. I had a AW e60 , leaning towards MW this time..or YMB...or MG..or Black Sapphire, change my mind by the minute. PLUS its not that common. The majority of people will stick with AW rather thank fork over the cash for the metallic white. |

I really loved having mineral white...got tons of compliments and it is easier to keep clean. There IS a yellowish hue to it but it really brings the "baller" out in the car !

Indeed, Mineral removes the "plastic" appearance as my wife calls it. It looks much more rich to my eyes without looking "luxury". It is not as ostentatious as Lexus' or Caddy's bling metallic whites. Alpine: Mineral: |
