bootmod3 Dyno testing - DCT M4 with downpipes
As some of you know we started testing on a local DCT M4 to see what headaches the TCU will bring us as opposed to the 6MT car given what we've built so far. Grab a coffee or beer (although tequila usually does wonders ) and we'll go through it
Both cars have K&N dropin filters, DCT car also has downpipes. We wanted to see how the same tune would compare to the 6MT with stock downpipes on the same dyno in very similar conditions. In the graph below, you can see the car with downpipes making more midrange power/torque but up top power evens out. In fact the 6MT with stock downpipes made a little more power than the DCT with downpipes At the end of the night the dyno room was very hot. We didn't have the cooldowns we wanted and right next to us there was a lot of testing being done on a Mustang 5.0 build that was running extremely rich polluting air making for absolutely worst ambients possible. It was almost 11pm and we wanted to go home without waiting for room to clear so it is what it is at this time, no glory! Downpipes on stock turbos seem to provide a nice midrange power/tq advantage over the stock downpipes but past 6k there doesn't really seem to be much of an advantage over stock downpipes, on pump gas. With more boost/flow in the top end with higher octane, maybe. Dyno RUN descriptions: Run 31: 6MT M4, K&N dropin filters, stock - previous thread on Stage 1 testing, pump gas Run 2: DCT M4, K&N dropin filters, downpipes - Same boost/timing/fuel profile as the 6MT car, pump gas Run 10 (very hot in the dyno room with air pollution ): DCT M4, K&N dropin filters, downpipes - Some tweaks to midrange boost, touchups on timing over previous Stage 1. We'll test these on the Stage 1 car as well next time out before it changes over with downpipes. As an aside from making power, we noticed the issue that many seem to report with the car going into limp mode causing a Drivetrain Malfunction (red gauge in the dash) to happen which requires you to pull over and restart the car. This would happen only during part throttle acceleration. We spent a couple days trying to resolve the issue and we're happy to report we've managed to resolve it on our test car. We'll be sending updates to other BETA DCT cars today and have it hopefully confirmed. Before any comparisons with other flash tunes are posted like in the previous thread please do realize that we're not here to compete for dyno numbers with other options on the market. What we're providing with bootmod3 is a custom tuning and monitoring platform for the F series vehicles that'll come with some base maps such as what you see here and in the previous thread. Those maps can be used without any modification by end users, or, taken to a dyno to further custom calibrate to your individual setup. Any questions at all let us know. |

Are you guys doing any R&D for a TCU tune? Or at least increasing clamping force?

And what PSI are these cars running at?

According to this post should be around 21 as he said it's the same stage 1 file.

Great feedback guys! I was waiting to see this data. I like that response advantage and midrange downpipes provide over stock. I'm sure with more flow in the top end from maybe Stage 2 turbos it would show considerably more even though your dyno graph didn't capture it this time around.

Great work, guys. This looks very promising.
From a custom tuning standpoint, what does the platform's interface look like? Example, say I want to create a map with a different boost curve...can you share images of the UI? Not to veer off topic and get too deep into the weeds, but how granular can you get with specific settings? With the trivial shit like overrun..is it possible to set it to as little as half a second? What other parameters outside of the engine does this allow access to? |

Depending on gear and ambients boost varies. In 4th gear for instance on non-ZCP cars you'll see about 15psi to redline. 5th gear you'll see the same bottom end boost and torque but they raise boost towards redline to about 18psi or so. Quote:

I always knew the 6spd manual was better then the DCT!!! JK
Excellent work on making this platform better then it is!
