How do you clean your steering wheel?

How do you clean your steering wheel to keep the leather from getting sticky or slippery? Any products that are good for this -- or good to avoid? Thanks!

How many miles do you have? does it retain the factory matte look? I heard mixed things about cleaning steering wheel. Some swear by just microfiber and distilled water...

I only have 7500 miles but I just use a damp microfiber cloth, followed by a dry microfiber cloth. It’s worked well. In the past I have used Lexol leather cleaner to clean leather, which also works well. Haven’t needed to use a cleaner yet on my wheel. Looks and feels new still.

About 8500. Yes it leaves a little bit of residue due to the beeswax in it but it buffs away and leaves leather looking matte and clean. Not greasy or shiny at all.

Griot's Garage leather cleaner, followed by their leather conditioner. Cleans the leather, keeps it soft, and protects against UV damage.

i'll second griot's. i have a 2015 with silverstone leather and people are routinely amazed. any decent brand would probably net the same results though.

the key is preventative care and routine maintenance. our leather isn't sealed so it'll absorb dirt as readily as conditioner. be careful with food, clean/care at least every six months, and it'll stay new.

Heres a little article I wrote about keeping your wheel in new condition:

https://obsessedm3.com/how-to-keep-y...new-condition/

Its always something that has bugged me and with this regimen I'm able to keep it looking damn near new.

A cloth dampened with distilled water does wonders and was suggested by my detailer.

My son recommended Connolly Leather cleaner and lotion to keep the seats and steering wheel in like new condition. I tried the products the other day, first on my steering wheel, which was shinny black and slick. After spraying the cleaner on a microfiber cloth and wiping the wheel the result was dramatic - in a good way. The lotion did not produce a sheen nor a slick finish. Overall I was impressed and pleased. Heretofore, I used the Lexol products but now I think I found a better performing one. It appears there a several good products out there to choose from - just thought I’d offer another option.

I'd rather just clean it once in a while and if it looks bad just replace it later.

FYI, the link doesn't work (at least for me).

Mostly water, occasionally Leather Master's cleaner, but no conditioner or anything that has conditioner in it.

What error do you get when you click it? Works fine for me on my phone and computer...

The server must have been temporarily down during the few minutes I was trying. That was the message. Works fine now.

Gyeon leather cleaner took all the shine away and completely restored the matte look. Works better than anything else I've tried.

My typical MO is to simply hit it with a damp microfiber weekly. However, this week, I wiped it down with AMMO Lather and was stunned at how much dirt was lifted, even with religious wipe downs. Will be adding this to the regimen once a month or so.

I have a 2015 M4 with very few miles (less than 10k). The steering wheel leather has started to get rough in places. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this something that would be covered by warranty. My 10 year old 1 series with an M package steering wheel never had any issues (and I hardly maintained it).

I have recently experienced this as well and hate the rough feeling some of the areas have on the steering wheel. Did you ever find a fix or solution other than buying a new one? What is everyone else doing that has this issue?
