You just said the resemblance is much less pronounced due to the e90 having a "front end specific to the m3"...isn't that what's going on here? |

The M3 looks better in every way except:
1) the colour coded diffuser doesn't look as good as a black one. 2) the M3 spoiler is too discreet, M Performance one looks better! |

The M3 is beautiful. So is the F30. Most people won't be able to tell the difference.
Given the outstanding performance available with the F30, is the F80 worth another 20K? Or just enjoy the F30 and buy another year of college for one of your kids... Just sayin'

The the E90 M3 front end shares nothing with say an E90 335i M-sport. Not the fenders, not the hood (longer hood on the M), not the headlamps (shared with E92 instead), not even the kidneys. That was one of the things that drew me to that car, it was a frankenstein front end but the result is that the front end was completely different than the standard E90 while sharing the nice sedan proportions. In contrast, it seems like F80 shares the headlamps & kidneys. Its not a good or bad thing, just something i noticed. Super trivial, i know. But its the little things that some car guys notice. And for some, little things like that make a big difference, which is why LCI lights, LED tails, etc. are such a huge deal for many. Anyways, back on topic. Both cars look great, would love to see both juxtaposed in person.

The f80 M3 shares the same front end of the f32, not the f30. Exactly how the e90 M3 shared the same front end of the e92 (pre-lci, which the e92 M3 also shared)...there is your "m3 specific front end" you are talking about. The kidney grills are also different - again the shape from the coupe (again, the same as the last generation of cars). Whats also different is that the M3 has double slatted grills vs the non M version of the 3er. The hood has a powerdome but is also based off the coupe. The fenders are different. Basically the front clip of the F80 M3 is based off the F32, NOT the F30 - again, exactly the same as the e9x generation. Its hard to tell because the F30 in this thread is in black, but you need to pay attention to the details a little more (as a car guy) Look at the side profile of the 335....the headlamps angles upward quite steeply vs the rounded edges of the m3. Look at the grill, on the m3 it curves to the a point on the top outter edges whereas in the 335 its more squared off. Its a sedan with the coupe front end....same frankenstein concept with the bullish sedan stance!!!! Last edited by pkimM3r; 04-14-2014 at 08:20 PM.. |

The fender flares on the F80 M3 are more pronounced than the E90 M3. I noticed that this particular photo shoot makes the flare on the M performance F30 look pretty bold, but in reality, it's a combination of a black car versus a blue car (black always looks more curvy because of reflection), and a good angle for the F30. A couple of things give the F80 a really distinctive appearance. The "gill" fender vents, and the completely different aero out front. Every bit of the front aero from the bumper-line down is completely distinct on the F80. I predict the difference will be even more obvious in person. It's hard to get a good feel for 3-dimensional depth in photographs.

How does the front fender vent make zero design sense? Its the most natural place it could possibly be! It's based off of the same line as the e9xM, just larger.
