Day time lights will not cut off

About 3 weeks ago my day time running lights stayed on. When I first got my 2015 M3 I turned them off. Now even thought the menu showes them turned off they still behave like they are supposed to be when they are turned on. What should I check?

You hate the halos or light trim? I believe those are our daytime running lights.

Well, any daytime running lights. I always turn them off.

What do you mean by light trim?

The newer models have the octagon looking surrounds instead of the halos.

The DRL are safety measure to help make you more visible to traffic that might otherwise not see you and also serve as an idiot proof for those that forget to turn on their lights in poor visibility conditions such as rain, fog, etc. Instead of having your headlights on, BMW's halos or light trim serve the purpose of the DRLs. I think the halos look cool.

The feds made motorcycles have lights on all the time to make it safer when we are riding. I made us stand out from all the other traffic. Now with so many have day time lighting no one stands out except the car without them on and some of the people do not realize they do not have their regular light turned and that I think it is not that great. Just like third brake lights that they told us would cut down on accidents, but after they became common the data no longer supported their beliefs. I know I am fighting a loosing battle with this and I am sure it will not be my last time.

I like the shape/design of the LCI 2.0 lights a lot and know why DRLs even exist in the first place. IMHO, they are annoying and distract from the design of the car. Your eyes immediately focus on the DRLs. If I want to turn my lights on, I'll just use the parking lights. To me they are a dorky feature. Especially when they first came out. IIRC Saturn cars had them. Nobody liked DRLs at first. Now everyone shits their pants for DRLs. Even to the point that if a car never had them, the owner will install DRLs. Hilarious to me.

I can't freaking stand DRL's. Mine were off before I left the dealer for the first time. I can't believe people haven't take 10 minutes to go through every setting in their cars. It's the easiest thing you can do.

Turned mine off also. Takes some navigation to get to the exterior lighting settings, but at least BMW gave us the option of turning them off.

Must not be in California, but in many states it is illegal to drive with your parking lights on. Something to do with parking lights indicate you are parked - guess that's why they called them that

My setting show them off, but they are still on. I have spent much time trying to find the problem. I shut mine off when I picked up my car in SC in 2015. When I find the problem I will post my solution

That has to be an old law, because when you turn on your parking lights the rear taillights look the same whether or not your headlights are on...

Has nothing to do with just the tail lights. And it is illegal in California.

That's when you're driving when there's fog and at night. Obviously at these times you will use full lighting.

We're talking about using the parking lights during the daylight hours if you've disabled the DRLs and just want extra lighting for a short time.

From the second link:

1According to the California Vehicle Code, "No vehicle shall be driven at any time with the parking lamps lighted except when the lamps are being used as turn signal lamps or when the headlamps are also lighted."

One will argue what is the difference between DRL and PL? Only that the latter has the taillights on also.
