MotorTrend Facebook SpeedBot - Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 vs. M3 ZCP from 0-60s
Almost just LOLed in public
Didn't compare to any other cars, but it definitely got the M's 0-60 wrong by a good .4 seconds and was probably being hopeful for the Infiniti giving it a 0-60 of 4.5s. Has anyone else used this bot?

...no, it's just funny. They're really pushing this new Red Sport, but it is a bit of false advertising. Just a fun little Facebook game.

Yes. Completely underwhelming IMHO. But definitely worth a drive if nothing else to see what is out there.

Apparently there's some talk of popped engines already.
I didn't dig too deep, though.

M3/M4s are more than just 0-60 times. However, if you're talking real world power/acceleration, how about 5-60mph, 20-80mph, 40-100mph, etc.
I trapped 115MPH in a stock ZCP F80 at ~4500ft altitude using 91 octane at a terribly prepped 1/4 mile strip.... withOUT using LC. My stock Auto Hellcat trapped 119mph Fast 0-60 times require LC, who actually engages LC during DD or on the street? Even in an AWD car.

It takes skill to launch a car properly. Forget 4 seconds, most average driver will have trouble getting 5 seconds from a dead stop.

Maybe they are basing it off the manual time not DCT.

I also had a Hellcat which had a "LAUNCH' button. Still wouldn't launch it on the street. Have a Focus RS with LC, still no need to engage LC on the street.

On dry, summer days the F80 launches with zero wheel spin using LC at 3k rpm. 1.7 60ft's at the strip. I've also tried it on some backroads, zero spin with LC at 3k. Sport+/Comfort/Comfort. Most owners put everything in Sport+ and wonder why they spin. Really impressed with this Comp Pack. My 2016 non-ZCP with the 6 speed would spin above a 2k launch.

Tesla's won't spin because they have an amazing closed-loop traction control algorithm. You put your foot to the floor and it just goes as fast as it can without wheelspin, no nonsense.
The launch control and TC in ICE cars is a cruel joke in comparison for the most part. BMW's launch control is basically open-loop too, not too great. I often wonder the reason. I know you may not be able to modulate the engine output as fast as an electric motor but it still seems like there is a lot of room for improvement. |
