Me too. I took a BMW "genius" for a 120mph "cruise" with my wife in the front seat and him in the back

OP. I'm in your area. Get out of the city (queens) and either come out to the island or go to the dirty jerz dealerships

Skip Ralleye. They suck! I got my M4 from Competition BMW in Smithtown. You can also try Habberstad (Bayshore or Huntington). I would just stop down and explain what you want to do in person. That works better then anonymous email. Etc etc IMO.

I went from e90 to f80, but I didn't have much choice because the e90 had a lot of issues at over 100k miles.
Keep driving the e90 for as long as you can. The f80 is nothing special.

I personally know 3 people who switched from e9X M3 to F8X M3. Two of them came back to e9X M3 and the 3rd person bought Mazda Maita and looking to get another e9x M3

My advice is you do a lot of test drive before pulling the trigger. Once you pull the trigger it will cost you a lot to go back.

I had an E92 M3 and now own a F82 M4...I'm currently looking at trading in my M4 for a 911 GT3 after 1.5 years of ownership because as much as I've tried to like my M4, it's just way too boring to me. It isn't a special car like the E9X M3, it's just a fast boring GT car. BMW really eff'd up with this generation. I don't know why people think the increase in torque is amazing....especially from an engine that sounds like complete shit no matter what you do. Stick with a NA high revving car if you want fun.

There is definitely a huge difference in the way each car delivers power. Thats what I meant by my post a few back about the F80 having more "usable" power meaning you dont have to redline it to get up and go. The F80 def feels significantly faster coming from the e90 M3. However, the NA V8 revving to 8400 rpm and pulling harder as it approaches redline is a special feeling and one typically reserved for exotic cars.

I had a e92 m3 that was heavily modified for about 5 years and sold it for an m4. I just took it to its 2nd track event this weekend, and I can finally say I am happy with it on the track.

My first track event I had everything stock except upgraded wheels and tires with nitto nt01s. It was terrible as the traction control was constantly interrupting.

After upgrading the software with gts steering, gts dct, and euro MDM, as well as PFC brake pads I am finally happy with the car.

For a while I was very unsure about the car. I like the updated interior, looks, car play etc. but I wasn't liking the feel of the car. The steering in particular, as well as the sound. My old car sounded amazing. I constantly got compliments on it.

If I were to have to give them a score I would have to give the e92 a score of 85/100 and the m4 a 90/100

Went from a e92m3 to a f80 and wish i still had my e92. F80 isn't special and the sound the car makes IMO sounds terrible.

The E90 looks dated to me, but it does sound better and has better steering feel so the E90/92 M3 will have more of an emotional feel to it.

But, outside of sound and steering feel the F80 is superior. It looks way nicer, has better tech, better chassis, better brakes, is a lot faster in every way, has 50 + more WHP stock, more torque, better gas mileage.

In every objective sense the F80 is superior, but some people just can't get past the sound of the F80. I'll admit the old V8 sounds better, but I actually don't mind the sound of the F80.

I think it actually sounds kind of good, but nothing will ever touch a N/A V8 in terms of sound.

I thought long and hard about getting the older gen M3 when I was car shopping, but the pros of the new one outweighed the old car. I plan on owning this for 5-8 years, and in 8 yrs time from now, the E90 (if I bought a 2010 model) would be 15 yrs old when I was getting rid of it.

Had a supercharged e90m3 made 530whp 347wtq. SOld it and about a F80 m3 , made 504whp 597wtq, Just couldn't love the car and it sounded like ass. Sold my f80 and I am now back in a E90M3. My e90 was with out question a faster car with the blower than my f80 on bolt ons. Was the f80 a fun car? yes but did I love it ? no. it looks nice and has great tech features but tthat really where it stops. the car is very under rated so it's no wonder it beats a stock m3 theymake 70whp difference stock for stock. but at equal power a E90 is a faster car. just takes more money o get there.

Testdrove F80 extensively, couple hundred miles, was glad to be back in my E90 6MT every time.

IF I had to have 1 car only, I would probably go F80. It just makes more sense. Faster, More room, More power yet better MPG, more techs (love the daily useable techs), newer everything. But nothing really is special...
I have a DD, and i think that changes the story. For a weekend/fun 2nd car, an E90 M3 is much more special, the engine, a slightly modded exhaust sound, and 6MT + revving that na motor is much more of a unique experience than F80 everytime I get in the driver's seat.

F80 is a great DD that i'd lease, E90 is a special car I want to keep+maintain in my garage for a long time.

Came here thinking about selling my garage queen (2011.5 e90m3 ZCP Jerez Black with 36.5k) for an m4 vert. But thinking I'll hold on to m3 for a while more. Looks like resale is great and was thinking a convertible made sense in his 100degree Dallas summer for some reason.

Depends on the car. If it's a new car, they tend to not want people coming in to stack on the miles on a new //M.

Also, there's the 1200 mile break in. You really don't want people whaling hard on a new car on the lot and that's what people wanting to test drive //M's typically do.

If it's used/a lease return, etc. they have on the lot I don't see the issue. They are past the break in period and have already been broken in by the previous owner. A few miles on a used car is no big deal.

Of course ultimately it's entirely up to the discretion of the dealership.

I personally would just hand my client the keys, especially if they pulled up in a previous E90
