The Macan is a chick's car. I was thinking about it for my wife's next ride if she gets knocked up and we need a little more room. Probably won't happen as she loves BMW and neither of us like or get (understand) the SUV craze.
I agree with scout that it's only worthwhile in turbo form. It will be underpowered in the other itineration's. |

I test drove a Macan GTS the other day and, while quick and way more practical for an only car compared to my Cayman, I know I'd get bored of it in like 2 months. I had fun with it at the Porsche drive event on the auto-x course because it exceeded my expectations for the course. I grew bored of my DCT F80 so I'd definitely grow bored of a lower-powered, less sporty DCT vehicle... still a great daily, just not for me... yet.

I've had Macan loaners, didn't like it much, steering was too loose, engine not very inspiring Of course compared to my car almost anything will seem that way.

we have a macan S
It's a great small SUV but not all that excitimg. At first I liked it more and I do like driving it more than the E70 X5 we just replaced. But there's a lot of things that I dont like - like the interior ergonomics. you might need to explain why you drive the X5 - if it is for the space, the Macan hasnt got much |

Test drove a Macan Turbo specced to $90k. BLAH.
It was a very boring drive, muted and really not all that fast. If you like performance and speed. Stick to performance cars like M3, muscle cars, 911, etc.

I looked at one last weekend as well. Too small.
Think of it this way the only real difference to your M3 is a a TAD more cargo, and AWD. If you're going to get an SUV get a more USEFUL SUV. If the M3 is the jack of all trades, master of none, I cant imagine what the Macan is. Sub-par at all trades? Mediocre at none? |

The Macans are great for what they are, sporty SUVs but they are not a pure performance car like an M3/4 are meant to be. They certainly are the only car in the small SUV segment worth buying and much better and more fun to drive than anything BmW, jag, Audi or Mercedes are doing. The sales numbers for the Macan speak for themselves.

I don't know why you would get the Macan when the Audi SQ5 is newer, quicker, roomier, and has a better interior. Not to mention it's cheaper than the Macan S with similar options.

I went with the Macan GTS with PTV and I do like it more than my F80. It's more comfort and my F80 2015 version which doesn't have the driving "feel" I like and felt weird with choppy ride and low front end. I'm sure now it's probably fixed and drives more like my old M2 which I like very much.
My opinion is go Sport Turismo. I had test driven the new Panamera 4s and had a base Panamera loaner and the new 2017+ is fantastic. Drives very well "not floaty" and comparable to a benz S-Class in terms of comfort and quiet cabin. |

Macan is not a more practical car comparing to M3/M4 unless you need the AWD to deal with weather issues. Imo, there's no need to add another suv since your family already has one.

I personally do NOT like the looks of the Macan at all. But, that's just me.
Two TOTALLY different cars so it's quite tough to give you an input. Good luck though. |

I don't thinks it's much of an upgrade except for badge and awd. Everything else is inferior. If you're looking for something different, there are quite many more options.
