Anyone in the UK? New Build questions...

Anyone in the UK ordered an M3 in the last month or so? How long did it take to move from order status to build status?

Generally how long does it take for this to happen? Curious to see what the time frames are, currently been 2 weeks since I left my deposit on the brand new M3, so curious to see how long it takes between order and build.

Thanks!

Its largely irrelevant when you see the status change. It's all down to the build slot you have been allocated. You will normally move from status 1100 to 1200 when the slot has been confirmed. You will then move through 5000 (confirmed for production) to 5050 (chassis number allocated) then to 5055 (confined by production control) - all usually at the same time and 3 weeks before the build starts.

Hope that helps.

What do these status numbers mean? First car I've ever ordered brand new so curious how the whole process goes from order to build to delivery.

Thanks for your reply.

Have a look here for starters - this post lists all the codes.

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...t=status+codes

I'm sure you'll have been given an expected build week from the dealer - if not, ask him for one. He can access the order system and it will tell you the current status of your car so you can see it progressing through the system.

On another note - current quoted waiting time is 20 weeks for a new M3 order although the dealer will probably have already booked a build "slot" for a stock car so most likely, you would get that time.

Anyways - just ask your dealer for a screenshot of the order and it will tell you everything.

Thanks for your reply. I've got the email from BMW confirming the order and I've seen the video as well that the dealer made for me with my order details/car.

It has requested delivery date towards end of June but nothing else really on there.

I'll give a chase up call on Monday for an update as I was told I'd get updates every 2 weeks.

If it's delivery date near end June then it will likely be built 3 weeks before. Again, your dealer can tell you the scheduled build week. Thinks will only really start to happen a few weeks before the build date so at this time, it's not really worth pestering the dealer every week. As he says, every two weeks should be enough.

Have a peek at this thread too. If you scroll down you will see a pic of the order details my dealer sent me. This is what you need to see build dates etc.

Hi,

I don't have as much as detail as that. On my screenshot, I just have the following dates:

Reg Delivery Date: 22/06/2018 Status 077.
Pref Hand Dt: 15/06/2018.
Pref PM: 05/2018.
Current Event: 06/03/2018 0077 No Quota Available.
Production Week Unknown

I don't have:

Expected Week

Like on your screenshot.

According to BMW Genius, it's between the dealer and the factory accepting it, i.e. the factory are still waiting to accept the order, so no expected build week has been given and BMW Genius have said contact the dealer for more info.

I will be more patient and calm myself down. Do you think it's worth touching base next week or leave it? I'm massively excited as this is a dream come true for me. Going by what you have said, it takes 3 weeks to be built and delivered?

Thank you for your reply and help again.

No quota available means exactly that - there are no build slots but the dealer is trying to get it built in May and handover 15 June. It will all boil down to when BMW can fit it in. They may pinch a slot off another dealer if possible as you are a private buyer.

Until you get a status of 1100 "Scheduled" they cant really do anything but guess/hope when it will be built/delivered unfortunately.

May will be the last month of production for the F80, so they'll need to get one before then as there won't be any slots after that.

Hopefully I get an update soon. Just wary that it won't be built in time for when production ends? Maybe I'm thinking too much into it?

Interesting you say that, when I spoke to BMW Genius and asked them about my order, I then went on to ask about the F80 production and they said the following to me:

Quote:
There is no official channel of communication stating the M3 will be going out of production. I would not worry. As with anything going out of production. There will be a period where orders still can be placed once something of this nature has been confirmed.
Has anything actually been confirmed by BMW? I.e. an official note from BMW, rather than blogs and what not?

Thank you all for your replies and help.

The genius says they don't know but then says not to worry about the end of production date, he states that you can still order the car until the end of production. Which is correct.

You don't have a slot so they will need to get you one before production stops....I would be pressing them for a slot.

I'll email and call up the dealer.

True Wills2 - I'd forgotten about the EOP date.

Unconfirmed info below but it does state EOP in June.

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1082153

OP needs to push the dealer on this and he may need to beg a slot of another franchise if he's used all of his own allocation. Still might be tight..........

Fingers crossed. I've contacted the dealer anyway for an update and raised my concerns. A deposit was left early March, pending the rest on delivery.

The dealer used is backed by BMW UK so I believe I'm in good hands. Unless things go tits up, I don't have anything bad to say about the dealer or my experience.

Wills2 where you said: "he states that you can still order the car until the end of production." Does that mean, provided there's a slot available, if it's due to end in June, you can still order in June?

Earlier than I was initially told. It says Expected mid May, rather than towards the end of June.

It's currently at status 1200, production week 15-04. I'm at ease now that I have dates and won't pester the dealer now!
