[QUOTE=Groundpilot;14759387]If this car makes it to our country, they should price it below new GT3.
At near GT3 price almost every potential buyer will go for the porsche. QUOTE] No there will be plenty of buyers regardless of price because of exclusivity. I wouldn't expect it to be ahigh volume proposition. Why do you think the GTS's all sold out despite their ludicrous pricing. |

Agree, I would buy it for ~100K loaded, but anything pass 120K I am going with 991 GT3.

2016!? We're still in 2013! There's so much time and variables in between now and then that it's just anyone's guess.
Most likely scenarios to expect: It's either not going to happen, or the car will be limited sales restricted to Europe a-la the GTS and CRT. |

Exactly. The new Porsche GT3 has a DCT, yet BMW will have the "lightweight" M4 go manual...is this in terms of light weight? I doubt it, it seems fishy, plus the new M4/M3 hasn't even hit dealer floors yet, and people are already talking about a lightweight car...

Exactly. Please don't get me wrong - I love BMW, but sometimes I get the feeling they are really starting to overestimate the value of their brand and quality. They are absolutely not on the same level as Porsche and Aston, but they seem to think their prices can be. It's a bit like if Honda came out with a $60,000 car (no, the NSX doesn't count). We would all just laugh.

Furthermore it "it" is only about the experience we would all be driving Lotus', gutted Miatas or Caterhams. Spare me establishing that this is clearly not the case... It is a matter of opinion that the experience of a MT >> the experience of a DCT and my opinion differs from that. When it comes to the performance advantage there is no opinion, just fact. I repeat myself like a broken record but DCT is only a tool. One can still drive and have full control over all shifts, the decision and mental part of shifting and even the fun and control is still there, just not the tedious manual part. DCT allows more mental bandwidth for elements of agressive or competitive driving that humans are better at than machines (presently) and those things are plenty of fun and more challenging that pushing a pedal and rowing a stick.

If the ///M4 lightweight model will exist, I hope BMW will make an atmospheric engine with a manuel transmission
BMW is generalist manufacturer. So I think they must do the same thing with their ///M models like PORSCHE with the TURBO and the GT3 |

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Why is everyone saying they would pay $100k for this car? All they're going to do is remove the seats and the AC compressor. I looked at the 428i and 435i yesterday and was not super impressed with the build quality. Specifically the exterior door handles felt cheap. The M5 was a dream in this regard, and the 650i gransport also.
The other thing that isn't adding up for me is that the 428i is listed at 3470 lbs on BMW's site. I know they can save 10 pounds here and there but it seems like it's going to be difficult to impossible to get to the numbers we've been talking about on this forum.

The F82 is 176 lbs ( 80kg ) lighter The anniversary car is another 100 kg lighter ( 1500 kg - 1400 kg Kerb weight ) Total weight savings vs E92 M3 = 3704 - 176 - 220 lbs = 3308 lbs. I think a Porsche 991 C2S is 3075 lbs without a driver so this anniversery model M4 should be neck in neck in regards to weight. Then expect close to 500 hp and I think it will be worth $100k on both performance and agility basis. It's still a turbo car though and a body and style taken from a $40k 3 series so it would not be something I'd buy over a GT3 at the same $$$, not even close. However limited edition performance models of iconic cars seems to sell out before the first is delivered independent on price tag. Last edited by solstice; 10-04-2013 at 01:48 PM.. |

This report bothers me because whilst it is true they are thinking of further progression with the M4 , this is not that car.
This is an enthusiast wish-list compiled by individuals who are disappointed with the new car but have not even driven it yet. And it completely ignores the conventions of market. One of which is the manual over DCT. Given its position in the market any progression will feature the M DCT as the GTS had to appeal to markets that favour simplicity over complexity even though it can be the other way around for other markets. As we progress further with the M4 we will see further application of CFRP as it becomes more cost effective to apply which is significant because it shows a radical shift in the segment to introduce new technology but maintain that leadership especially in relation to cost application against other competitors. The standard M4 is not to be overlooked in regards to fictional enthusiast pandering for progression. Have patience. Besides there are other ways to celebrate an anniversary.

I assume that patience refers to "more info will soon follow" and not patience as in "wait with ordering the first M3/M4 since better will shortly follow"?
