anyone having issues with GoogleMaps "send to car" feature?

it's been N/A for almost 2+ weeks now for me!

I've sent about 4 addresses to the car, and nothing shows up... I'd had to copy/paste the address to teh BMW connect app and then send to vehicle, for it to show up.

Anyone knows what's going on?

I thought Google Maps discontinued send to car a long time ago. I’ve been using the BMW Connect app.

I just use the BMW Connected and send it through that. It works perfectly. Then there are times when I just use the phone and just hear it through Bluetooth too.

Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't from Google Maps on the web anyway. Or are you talking about from mobile?

From what I can tell it looks like some locations can be sent and some can't from the web, but I don't know why.

oh really? Was there an announcement about this?

I didn't hear anything, and up until a month or so ago, it was working fine

No, I'm talking about the desktop site. If I'm using my phone, I just use the BMW connceted app and I'm done, but sometimes I'm at work/home in front of the computer, and just googlemap something or get an address and then use desktop site to send it to the car.

My last car was a 2013 S4 and I do recall a notification. Perhaps it was just no longer going to work with Audi or my version of MMI or something. I used to use it and liked it but once I couldn’t use it I never thought of trying it again in my BMW. So I guess it is still around (just malfunctioning).

Just sent an address through Google Maps on my laptop to my car. I'll check if it actually got sent to the car in a while and report back.

Ok it worked just fine

So basically just Google: Google Maps Send To Car then it will take you to the page where you can manage your vehicles, then you wanna ensure that the model selected is BMW and the account is your ConnectedDrive account email not just the ID

Now go to Google Maps on your computer and pull up and address then choose send to phone, after that you would get a pop up showing you the current cell phones that you have associated with your account AND at the top should be your car. Simply send it to your car and the address would be in BMW messages.

Jus did this and it worked

yes, I know, that's what I've been doing for the past 3 years, thus the reason for this thread because this is not working for me.... but I will try again this morning and see if it works.

Dumb question but are you paying for connected drive? I think the free service expires after 3 years.

just tried it twice, once this morning, once tonite, and still nothing shows up!!

In googlemaps, I select the correct car (using the email address used for my connecteddrive).

Is there a way to check if the backend server in ConnectedDrive has the right stuff in case somehow it got fubar'd?

Is there a BMW geek squad num I can call, or need to take car in?

Here's the thing, in the past year this has never worked for me. But when you made this thread, it encouraged me to give it another shot. What I did do is delete my current car/account then re-add them and it worked like a charm.

  • BMW Genuis says that they are aware of this for some time, and that it is an issue with GoogleMaps server side (change of APIs), so they don't have an ETA when this will be addressed.
  • They said the workaround for now is to use the bmw connected drive site ( https://connecteddrive.bmwusa.com), login with your credentials, and then use the google maps portal under there

***UPDATE***

1) the connected Drive portal method works... I logged in, went to "my settings" and sent an address, and the car got it.

2) the delete, then add car again, to the "sendtocar" settings in googlemaps didn't work. I went to google (https://www.google.com/maps/sendtocar), updated my car (deleted, then added it again), and sent a couple of addresses, and still nothing!

I meant to delete the BMW account form the Google Account then re-add it
