Yea, dealer was confused. What bothers me however is that this fix only helps if the car is locked. If the car is unlocked, like it is my garage, then it is still a single push of the trunk button. Might have to have it officially coded for a double press.

That would be a royal pain in the ass and something I've never done - nor had to, because my trunk never opened on its own.

And for those of you thinking about doing this update from the dealer, do note that my car has been returned as new - not one saved setting remains including seat memory, M buttons, short cuts, etc. Like a brand new car. Chit.

Second I always lock the car in the garage. I was told by dealer the electronics do not go into full sleep mode if it is not locked. So there is more drain on the battery. |

Locking the door will put the car to sleep faster - for instance if you only do the one push, then it will shut it down. Worst case, the car stays alive for no more than 15 minutes after shut off and with the lithium ion battery in this car, there should not be a need to "lock it" to make it go to sleep faster. I don't think anyone disagree with this - the mystery is why does it happen so easily with the M3/3-series key/software vs. other BMWs. As noted, been driving BMWs for a long time (continuously since 1995, with the exception of the dark Lexus period of 2001-2004, but we shant talk about that). Never has the trunk opened on me - with key in pocket.

I took mine to the dealer for a service and mentioned this issue. My advisor had the mechanic code my fob (two clicks to open trunk) and disable the kick swipe feature under the bumper. I have not had an issue since. According to my advisor it's a known issue so just take your car down to the dealer and have the code it.

Shit keeps happening to me. It's so damn annoying. There's no way I'm triggering the key fob but the trunk has been opening once every 2 weeks or so. AT work!

Very interesting thread. I have had the trunk lid open problem several times, and driver's window open once. Took my car into my dealer this AM, and here is what I got back:
Connected battery charger, ran ISTA test, checked air for PUMA measures, found measure 63379954-06. Part backordered Germany.PUMA is their name for a database of issues that various dealers around the world have resolved. Not sure what the part will be, except that it's electronic (surprise, surprise). I'm very curious how this will play out. BTW, I am aware of the coding workaround. I am assuming I can do this myself with my copy of BimmerCode, but I don't really like that so-called solution. |

It's odd that I'm on my 5th BMW and haven't had this problem on any of my previous ones. I'm going to try setting the fob delay to 3 or 5 seconds for now and see if I can get to the dealer to get the TSB done. Thankfully I don't usually have too much in my trunk, although sometimes I have a gun or two back there and I'd prefer to not have those stolen.

Speaking about the trunk opening, does pressing the trunk release from driver's seat or the button make the trunk just un-latch or is it supposed to actually open? Mine only unlatches.

So this was an issue for me constantly happening with my F82. When I got my F80 recently I bought one of those key covers. I tried pressing the trunk button thru the cover by applying pressure to confirm there is no way for it to press the trunk release button in my pocket. One day I took the key out of my pocket (while still in the key cover) and the trunk randomly popped open. It was very strange since the key was still in the key cover and I hadn't pressed any buttons nor was I close to the trunk to kick it open.

This happens to me occasionally... it happened on my 2015, and also happens on my 2018. It happens more frequently on my 2018. I run an RKP diffuser... I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I look like an idiot trying to close my trunk as it keeps popping open as if I left my keys in it. So dumb lol...
