5/95 ratio is BS. I've dealt with a couple fair traffic officers but the majority have just been bullies with a badge. You must kiss their a$$ otherwise you get screwed. It's all about collecting funds for the city and upholding their tough boy ego.
Maybe you would put yourself in as an outlier case.

I have seen a few people in the medical field that are dickheads. You sounded like one too. For a person with higher education as yourself, stereotyping should be the least logical way of finding the root causes of things. The 5/95 ratio matches with my encounter with LE in both professional and personal environment.

Most cops here in GA are pretty good. what i never understood was people getting ticketed for less than 5 mph over in Illinois. That's just crazy!

Why? Going 5 under and turning into a 6 lane thoroughfare doesn't seem all that crazy.

I always buy really cool looking high performance cars, but I actually drive like an 85 year old grandma. Except the 1 time I got a ticket for doing 45 in a 30 mph zone. I thanked the officer for doing a good job.

Per the California DMV website: California has a "Basic Speed Law" meaning you can never drive faster than is safe for current conditions. So one may be in violation of the Basic Speed Law even if the rate of travel is under the posted maximum speed limit.

Thus going 5 under around a turn doesn't mean the driver is not in violation of the Basic Speed Law.

IMO, your example of going 45 when turning into a 6 lane thoroughfare seems a bit reckless because the rate of travel will not allow you to react quickly enough to a sudden object coming into your line of travel. At least that's what I think, but I don't have expertise in this area, so this is just my opinion.

Medicine.

I don't care how butthurt you are, traffic cops are still dickheads.

I bet he has his share of getting tickets : esp with that kind of comment. I can already see it, he's speeding, doing 70 on a 45, gets pulled over and he says.. "WTF did i do?"

Cop response.."Here's your ticket. Thanks for being a dick. Have a good day!"

How many doctors have been killed in their office this year? How many cops? Anyone ever try to shoot you? There’s a reason for the tough guy attitude, it’s to keep pretensious dicks like you in line, and it’s also keeps us alive. I cringe when I find out I’ve pullled a Doctor over. They’re the worst, always an emergency, always an excuse. Sorry for the inconvenience sir, put the phone down and drive safety.

I've worked in the bowels of healthcare with clinicians of all sorts ... we're still in the original doctors-are-dickheads time, thus there is no last time. At least in the US. Some PCPs/internal medicine docs can be cool though. And snareman. But those are the exceptions.

anyway, e.g., Doctor, Dickhead, or Dumbass?

I’ve pulled over a “doctor” before where the experience was cringeworthy. It was for a cellphone violation while she was driving to the zoo with her two young children in the back seats. AFTER giving her the summons this doctor stated and I quote “ I am a doctor officer, you shouldn’t give me a ticket (she didn’t state anything previously). “ I then proceeded to state that once the summons is written I cannot do anything but you may and I recommend to dispute the summons in traffic court. She then stated “ wow so you can’t help a doctor ? I hope you never get sick and come into my office. “
I Was in shock and said have a great day with your children, mam. I AM WAITING For that court notification to make sure I win the case and get a guilty verdict. That satisfaction will be glorious.

This is a huge stretch. Most of NJ is dominated by nice cars. All cars can speed. Honestly a m3/m4 is just another (white ) bmw going down the road. You have to be committing a traffic violation to get their attention.

But op its not the car, you decided to hoon and you got caught, its that simple. Nothing further than this. Its part of the game. Happens to the best of us

I’ve had my share of run ins with cops while driving like an asshat. I am always respectful, leave my hands on the steering wheel, apologize, tell the truth, don’t try to minimize what I was doing and the vast majority of the time they’ve either let me off completely free or gave me a big break on the ticket they write. Couple of examples:

1. I was doing about 105 mph and cut across the double yellow into a carpool lane (yes I had a passenger). Got pulled over, apologized, etc. and he gave me a warning and let me off with a no front license plate ticket. I realize he could’ve probably arrested me and impounded my car but he was totally cool.

2. Peeled out racing another car from a stop light, got pulled over, cop asked what I was doing. Told him I was driving like an idiot and apologized. He said “just trying to get a better look at the other car right?” I said “yes sir. Sorry officer.” And he let me off with just a warning to slow it down.

I have found that if you treat cops w/ respect, make eye contact, make them feel safe and comfortable, roll windows down, keep hands on steering wheel, ask before you reach for anything in the car, and don’t try to BS them as they’ve heard a million lame stories, they tend to appreciate that and will give you a break.

I am a doctor and there are definitely dickheads in the field, some specialties way more than others. I have been pulled over 3 times since getting the M3 and was respectful all 3 times and the officers just chatted about the car then let me go, even when I was going about 112 on the way home after being called into the hospital in the middle of the night, all I got was a 'get home safe.'

I'm a doctor and was stopped once on the way to an emergency (to open a blocked coronary artery). Respectfully advised I was on the way to an emergency and he let me go promptly.

Police have a job to do. I've never had an issue with them.

I've been involved in many traffic fatalities in hospital through my training and they aren't pretty. The majority of the time speed is the major factor. Police try to keep the public safe. Some may do it with an attitude - it's a thankless dangerous job - especially in the US where any man woman or moron could be carrying a Mach 10.

Bottom line - behave and they won't cross your path.

I don't think the m4 looks too fast or whatever, in fact that's one of the reasons why I bought it. I always liked the idea of a slightly sporty but otherwise regular looking car that has amazing performance. BMW created the modern factory sleeper market with m division, and the 3 series in particular.

I'm going guess that a Mustang or Camaro would get a lot more police attention than the BMWs.

It sounds like we're going to disagree here, but I imagine that statute could apply if you were drifting around a corner - IE where you didn't have full control of the car. IMHO, taking a controlled corner with little or no tire squeal shouldn't be cause for concern.

Most encounters with the law (traffic) are smooth is you are smooth. However, no matter what there will always be some asshat who thinks they run the world. Charging everything they can think of and waste my time and taxpayers money in litigation. Can't do anything about these cops, once I get the vibe the officer will behave in this manner; I stop talking and just stare blankly into the horizon

I had a Sakhir Orange F80 for 3 years and didn't really get bothered. My friend literally accidentally raced a state trooper on an onramp and he still ended up with a warning. Granted I don't drive like a complete spaz like he was at the time, I think the car is fairly under the radar. I generally move at a pretty good clip on the highway, and I do pass people in the center or the right lane when they are not traveling a suitable speed in the left lane (which is illegal of them and inconsiderate of me).

I dunno maybe the green/baby blue crowd feels different .
