Hey I agree, I'm in the same boat as you and also from New Jersey. I've owned my M3 for 3 years now and have had the pleasure of never getting pulled over *knock on wood*. I drive past cops ALL day long, they don't even blink twice. A lot of times I'll even be going 10 mph above the speed limit and still not even a double-take.

Don't you have to be doing 20 over in North NJ/NY to even keep up with traffic?

Got a Reckless Driving, Speeding (78 in a 65) - if you arent from Jersey I would say the average speed of a car on the Parkway is 80-85, and No Front Plate ticket from a NJ State Trooper. This is in a grey M5 which arguably flies under the radar.

I was driving in the right lane, hadn't changed lanes in maybe 20 minutes, keep in mind it was about 2am. Kept hands on the steering wheel, was respectful and even smiled.

Went to court, showed prosecutor the dash cam video which included audio from the hot head and the WHOLE THING got thrown out.

Got Pulled over twice, but no tickets in Long Island NY. Once because apparently I didn't have a front license plate (it was on the right side in the tow hook slot.) Cop was nice and apologized. 2nd, was at night for being too loud. Cop said he heard my car a mile away. Hilarious.

meh. imo my silver F80 is one of the most inconspicuous cars. it looks like any other plain 3 series. 3 years of owning the car with no front plate and dark tints and i have yet to be pulled over once. exhaust isn't particularly quiet either yet cops dont even bother looking at my direction.

Sure, but was I recklessly driving? No. Did he write me a ticket that carries a 7-day jail sentence and a 500 dollar fine (max) for riding the right lane with no other cars on the road doing what about 10 over? If you're interested in more of the details I would be happy to point you in the direction of my lawyer.

Sounds like they didn't want to deal with an abuse of power situation.

Been pulled over a handful of times in my life, some I was driving, others when I wasn't.

The dumbest things that have happened:

1. I was 18, might have had bud in the car, and an empty keg in the back. Was respectful to cop and he gave me a 72 in 55 and let me go. Didn't give him trouble and he didn't care to look into my car. Could have gotten real screwed at that point. Never had either of those two things in my car ever again. (Lesson learned!)

2. Also 18, bored one night, and was doing donuts on ice with car in an empty school parking lot. Cop came by, I was respectful and apologized. He let me go.

3. Also 18, rolled thru 3 consecutive stop signs, cop pulls me over in my parent's driveway after I parked. Told him I was past curfew and rushing home. Won't happen again. He let me go.

4. Also, 18. Friend took wrong turn, I was in passenger seat. Drove thru CIA checkpoint without stopping in Langley, Virginia and sped out. About 4 agents surrounded our car with their, rifles/guns drawn. They asked questions. We apologized and they let us go.

5. Turned 20. Got pulled over twice within 30 minutes by 2 separate cops for driving friend's car which had a tail light out - that I didn't know about. First let me go, second gave me an inspection ticket.

5. Also, 20. Unplugged my radar detector. Dropped Dad at Dulles Airport in Virginia. Terminal traffic cop on foot, sees it still attached to front windshield. I explined it was off and unplugged. Gives me a radar detector fine. Dafuq?

I haven't gotten pulled over in over 10 years now. Car is a good 200whp faster than what I had when I was getting pulled over for dumb shit. So in my case it was me being a juvenile asshat, vs now age + maturity, I suppose. Oddly enough, I'm also now in medicine.

I don't have much of a relationship/experience with cops at this point. They have a much more important role to play - which I could never do myself. I'd hate to deal with asshat 18 year olds like myself but them pulling me over was how I didn't kill myself and others and eventually became a relatively productive member of society.

7 day jail sentence, that is just messed up. Cop should be jailed for abuse of power.

I'm a doctor and my two brother in laws are both officers (canine), in a pretty rough area (Hayward, CA). The daily life of a cop is pretty danged scary. Everyone has an attitude and potentially a gun. Traffic stops are the worst.

Well I guess I'll post my story.......

This was a while back around 9 am on a Saturday im sitting in the kitchen eating breakfast and i hear loud banging at the door. I ignore it keep it and my gf comes to the door and its a cop and he asks is this your yellow car in the driveway. She tells him no and comes and gets me and he says he wants to speak with me. I come outside the cop is parked all kinds of crazy in the middle of the street and says a couple just stopped me and said this yellow car was just speeding thru the neighborhood and I ran your plate and I saw you were from the area. And I thought I just saw you pull into this random driveway and take off running. (Looks down at myself in pajamas and also wonders who the hell would ditch an 80,000 dollar car and take off running when you know u could outrun them for quite a while) Answers him and says how could that have been me im clearly in my pajamas and you walked past my car and you could have easily touched the hood and you would have immediately know it wasn't me. Then I tell him its 4 yellow cars that come through the area that speed.(Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, Cavalier) Other cop pulls up and says do we have a problem here. (Not even going to throw out my race here but I am 25) But the officer kept trying to tell me that I was just speeding through the area and I ditched my car. Spent 30 mins outside going back and forth and the cop didn't even touch the hood.

first day of ownership i got pulled over 3 times, all 3 times were around 1 am grabbing fast food lol, and they let me on my way in minutes, they are just doing their job, they don't care about the car most of the time. one of the times he actually pulled me out of the car which kinda sucks but maybe testing for drinking and driving idk.

I'll guess I'll post my stories about all of the people who try to race me and when I got pulled over for speeding.

Story #1 - Nobody has ever tried to race me.

Story #2 - I have not been pulled over for speeding in 25 years. (Thank you V1, Waze and Escort Laser Jammer)

I Was in shock and said have a great day with your children, mam. I AM WAITING For that court notification to make sure I win the case and get a guilty verdict. That satisfaction will be glorious.
How dare you ticket a doctor! What's wrong with you!

I'll be honest cops in the south are fantastic. Can't complain. I've been seen flying by cops several times going 10-15 over but they let me continue. I did slow down though and I wasn't driving reckless. This was on a big empty highway during the day.

Law enforcement looks at allot of cars, they look at the behavior of the car:going faster than others or the limit? weaving? other activity.

I have owned sports cars and performance cars, tickets in several cars that were not sports cars,it's behavior. have law enforcement in family , they tell me that it's what the driver does, not the car...of course attitude is key if stopped, don't be a dick no matter how stupid you think the cop is...you NEVER win. be respectful.

Sit next to a freeway or blvd for a while and look at the cars that go by, soon you will not care about 99% of the type of car, and you can easily tell someone who is speeding or driving like a nutjob in traffic..that's what the track is for.
