Paint correction?

Looking to have a paint correction done on my 2016 F83 M4. The detailers are telling me they will only take off a minimal amount of clear coat. Any tips on specific instructions I should give them about this? I want to refresh the look of the paint without taking off too much clear. Thanks in advance.

Good suggestion. Is there a maximum amount of clear I should allow them to polish off?

Has the car been paint corrected prior? Clear coat is the UV protection for the paint below so every bit you're shaving off is removing that finite resource. You'll likely be fine if this is the cars first correction but from my opinion, you want a detailer who understands when a scratch is too deep and preserves the paint vs one who guarantees a spotless finish.

That's excellent advice, thank you. It would be the car's first correction.

If the detailer is a good detailer let them do their thing. All good detailers will only take off the minimal amount of paint to meet your end goal (whether it be perfect with no swirls all the way down to “perfect from 5 feet). Don’t go to a car wash that does $200 full “detail” specials. Find one that will do a consult with you and determine what your goal is with the paint with respect to total cost. Those detailers will most likely have that paint thickness gauge so you shouldn’t have to worry about getting your own.

I just got my F83 detailed, paint corrected and ceramic coated. My guy looked over the car to gauge the level of paint correction needed, asked me about any repainted panels, asked what I wanted to achieve. But he didn’t ask me about how much clear to take off. As the poster above said, if you find a solid detailer, let him/her do their thing.

For reference, mine cost me $1k for a full exterior and interior detail, paint correction, and a PNS pro ceramic coat on everything except for the wheels and glass windows, which he used my 303 nano graphene coating on since he didn’t have a working airbrush for ceramic coating the wheels. I dropped the car off on Thurs morn and picked it up Sat morn.

That black looks amazing. Inspired me to do a quick correction to remove the 2+ year old Cquartz coating and finally install Gyeon Syncro two stage that's been sitting in my garage all summer. It's currently curing as I write this.

Your cars thank you for the TLC! Look forward to seeing your car with it all done, and that Sakhir orange already looks amazingly glossy and wet 💪🏻👏🏻
