Ceramic Coating Wheels

I applied Gyeon Rim to a brand new set of rims that I purchased. I applied Gyeon prep beforehand. I know I went really overboard because I essentially finished the bottle on the set of 4 wheels. I was using a microfiber towel to wipe down the areas I coated, in quarters segments.

My question is, should the rim feel silky smooth to the touch after the coating has completely cured?

I don’t see any “high spots” but certain areas of my wheels are def still tacky.

Assuming the appearance looks fine to me, would the tacky feeling have any effect on performance, or should the coating still work well?

Thanks.

What other prep work was done prior to applying the coating?

Did you use any iron remover on the wheels?

Did you clay bar the wheel to remove any embedded contaminants?

Clay barring + ceramic coating will give you that 'slickness' feel that you're looking for.

You would do all those other steps on a brand new wheel?
I only applied Gyeon prep.

I must've glanced over that you mentioned they were 'brand new'.

It could just be the finish of the wheels.

What brand and finish are the wheels?

(FYI, I would do that to new wheels because I'm such an OCD degenerate when it comes to detailing. I want things to be near perfect for me.)

Yeah. Definitely could be the finish of the wheels. Hard to say exactly what would cause the roughness/high spots but clay barring the wheels should make everything silky smooth.

Just my 2 cents but the wheels look great! I like the gold finish.
