It will get louder as the exhaust breaks in. Did this with the e90 back then. Also less vibration at cold start. Loving the tone at 1-4k rpm.

I REALLY hope someone gives it a shot. I did the non-perf mod on my E93 M3 and I have absolutely LOVED the car ever since (the exhaust was way too quiet stock). If it makes a similar difference to the new M3/M4 then I won't hesitate to do it. But I probably won't order one until next Fall so we'll need a guinea pig for now!

Guys... I just pulled the plugs this morning, it sounds amazing at startup. It sounds deep, pops when I rev the engine, and it's so nice hearing the exhaust cruising around. Who needs a $6k exhaust system, lol.

Is there any long term drawback? I assumed now that hot air doesn't flow through the full muffler, it will not get rid of moisture inside the muffler. So becareful when washing the car, don't blow water close to the exhaust tips?

For those who had trouble removing the plug, use a channel lock plier and make sure you grip that unlocking plastic tab. Gently pull the plug out, it takes 5sec.

Regardless of aftermarket exhaust, none of them seem too appealing to me. Turbos have really taken the fun out of that. I'd rather have the perforated pipes changed with solid pipes again on this model. Anyone do this yet, and did the exhaust get noticeably louder? I know the valve allows the gases to exit directly, but half the gases are still flowing through the center exhaust. Any incite would be appreciated.

Please spare me the merits of purchasing an aftermarket exhaust vs doing this.
Well let's hear it!

My smart ass only unplugged the left side, totally didn't realize there's another one on the right. I happen to be looking at my exhaust at cold start and only the left side was shooting out steam lol.
So yeh if u plan on doing this, just remember there's two side

There shouldn't be any warranty issues. The OEM flaps is to keep things quiet when you're not in Sport+. By opening the flaps permanently, you're just accepting the fact that it will not be quiet under normal operation.

Awesome! Just make sure the valves were open before you unplugged them.

Exhaust valve mod is great I think combining it with downpipes and cutting out the secondary cats for a straight pipe will sound great.

It is so funny in the first couple of minutes of the vid, all those cars are driving on the left lane in a line, just cruising and @AutoTech is just passing all of the them gently on the right lane

I think we won't have any issues driving in England, it would feel totally correct to us

Btw, ty for the vid, it is sounding nice really.

I heard this mod at a meet last Saturday. It sounds great.

Was planning on doing it over the weekend but got too busy. Doing my 1200 miles service on Wednesday and figured Id wait until after that's done. I cant believe a simple DIY mod makes such a difference.

Is the piece that is partially circled in red the tab that is holding the harness in? If so, does the tab need to be squeezed or pushed outward? TIA

Stupid question - is there a difference in this mod versus just putting it on sport mode? Essentially, is it the same thing - opens the valve?

no there is not a difference. Sport Plus is the only mode that opens the valves though. Sport still closes them at times.

Now this im not 100% sure of though... if you cold start your car and push sport + right away if the valves will open or remain closed until the engine warms up.

the cold start is where you will hear a major difference...its significantly louder on cold start and i love it... once the engine is warmed you will only hear a difference on low RPM's as on high RPM's the valves would have opened anyways.

I still need to do this. Does it eliminate the awful 30 seconds of rattling on cold start. It would be worth it just for that.
