CG Precision VSC-2 - Variable Sound Controller - Yes they are still around
Wanted to clear up some misconception after searching around the forums about the CG Precision VSC-2. I had a nice (very fast responses for CG) email conversation with walter that went as follows...
"Looking for the exhaust valve controller for my 17 M3. Do you have any in stock? Rumor has is on the forums you guys are out of business" CG's Response "Hi Kyle We are definitely not out of business, we just got a stock of 300 valve controllers here and are filling lots of orders. However we stopped paying the forum sponsorship as we have several wholesalers stocking our valve controllers and we didn't feel we needed to keep up with the forum. I'm surprised none of our recent customers have set the record straight on the forum. Anyway if you would like to purchase one, they are in stock on the website. Thanks, Walter" I responded with "Quite a few people complain about faulty controllers and being unable to get a hold of you. I appreciate the quick response and will be purchasing one shortly. Also the price discrepancy 199 vs 250 on eBay has people puzzled. No harm here just forwarding some thoughts for you guys. Thank you again" CG's Response "Hi Kyle, I appreciate the thoughts. Our price is higher on EBay because we have to pay eBay a fee, and so we encourage people to buy from our website instead by having a lower price. Regarding warranty on a failed part, we always take care of our customers but we are unfortunately hard to reach on the phone. Email works much better because we have a lot of international customers who can't call us in normal business hours and we don't tend to use the phone system as much. We have some work to do in that. Anyway, thanks for the feedback and interest in our product!" I wanted to help clear up any misconceptions with these units and CG as a whole. Hopefully this helps some of you! |

It shit the bed like everyone else's.
I tried to email/call via their website with no luck and was finally able to get a hold of them through Ebay. They asked me to send it back which I did over two weeks ago. Two weeks later still no answer as to why it died or what they are going to do about it. Just a an email here or there stating they were busy and were going to look at it 'tomorrow.' So regardless what Walter says their customer service is still seriously lacking and I caution anyone from buying one from them for two reasons. 1 very good chance it will fail and 2 a very good chance you will be left in the lurch either trying to get a hold of them or getting it replaced. |

Update to mine, apparently it works fine now that its back with them. They have seen some units intermittently fail (and start working again) due to vibration and have redesigned the bracket to fix that. My choices now are pay wholesale cost to get the new version or just have them send mine back and hope it doesn't happen again.
Update: they are going to replace it with the updated version free of charge. Also according to them they see it more on MPEs due to higher vibrations, which makes sense because it failed almost right after I installed it on my MPE after having it on the stock exhaust without issue. I have two of the VSC-2's. Never had a problem with either. So never had to contact the company post sales...
The first one was "Factory" vs "Open" The second one I purchased after getting catless DP's and Midpipe (LOUD) so I went to "Closed" vs "Open" No regrets. Love the product. Good price. Elegant, straight forward, solution. Easy to install (and remove). Like I said, though, never had to contact the mfr with any issues...

10-4, I agree!
But these are fairly simple, straight forward devices. I expect they either work or they don't (or maybe sometimes stop working). All that should be required is for the mfr to swap out the device if it is defective or fails within the warranty period. I expect they don't cost too much to mfr given the relatively reasonable purchase price. (I manufacturer electronic devices and components myself)... Have a problem? Just swap it out. It SHOULD be that simple. Its not like you can install them incorrectly.... I might suppose that they could be failing in the communications department and not so much the willingness to support their product... ...anyway, it makes me sad that such a nice product appears to have issues with company support.

Why pay more for this when you can have a significantly easier and more functional valve controller with Bimmerlink/Carrista?

I have the bimmerlink. Its too troublesome to use and ended up going with the CG precision device. I'm waaaay happier with the controller. My 2 cents...
