It seems the F3x/F8x cupholders are designed for those big fastfood/fastcoffee buckets (sorry, it can not be called a glass) and not for normal bottles. Any water bottle is just too narrow and moves around and creaks.
Is there any adapter or solution to this? 5 series has this done nicely so any size fits thanks to the springs inside... Maybe the European version is designed for the normal bottles? |

I have to say this problem was a new one and now that cars are received by us many, I thought we had heard it all already.

I just grab some napkins when I get my coffee and stuff them between the cup and the holder. I'll need them anyway for when I turn too quickly and the coffee spills all over the place. BTW... lots of little cracks in this car for coffee to get into. Annoying as hell.

bean counters took over the cup holder designs. it f'ing sucks. there should be spring tabs inside all cupholders. I think this and the fact that the sun visors do not extend out annoys me (all bmw's) annoy me to no end in this car.

They happen to be sized perfectly for 16.9 oz. bottles, so they work great for carbonated water which is great for me since I drink a lot of it. Also I have found that the door pockets (in the F80 anyway, not sure if the F82/F83 are the same) work great for the large size Vitamin Water bottles which I also have from time to time. This is a welcome change too - I was never able to fit water bottles in the doors in previous M3s.
I guess the better solution would be to avoid packaged water and just use a refillable bottle of the proper size - that would probably work for you OP. I just have a hard time giving up the consumables, especially for the carbonated water (don't want to have to screw around with those home carbonation appliances). |

Get this along with the lid:
http://www.tervis.com/designs/Form-C...c=093597041976 You can thank me later. Best drink tumbler in existence. You can even personalize them on the website, and if anything happens to it (even dropping and breaking it), they replace at no cost. Fantastic company and products. |

Anyone who had the last M3 and the poorly designed cupholders that car had will not complain about the cupholders in this car.

Part # 80900440458
Looking at some of the post seems as though BMW really messed up on the cupholder issue. But I'll be the first to tell you that the design of the cupholder is for the FIT of the Container they designed. THE FIT IS PERFECT. Then when you go to Starbucks etc. hand them that nice colorful Coffee Mug with the Roundel.

You drive up to Starbuck's in a BMW and they are going to think you are a douchbag because your mug has a Roundel on it

I have taken it to SB, but to be honest that is humiliating. Now I his fill it up next to the car in shame, and then take out the trash (I'm trying not to turn Peter into a SB cemetery as it has had that look going for him once or twice) and drive away.

Silly that my 2005 Ford F-150 had a rubber insert for the smaller, or what should be considered normal, cups . If you happened to need an opening for a huge cup you could remove it and it would fit that too.
Guess people who drove trucks need more flexibility on their beverage sizes. I don't drink much in my car so it's not a big deal to me but water bottles don't fit snug in my f30. I've survived though. |
