Its never going to "touch" a E9x in the sound department. If you were the same exhaust mods on each car the V8 will always have that rich and screaming exhaust note. Sure you can make the M4 sound better than stock though.

Heres the question. Is it so much ask, to have a car that sounds great and performs great when spending 80k ? I will move on from my E9x, but to something that has the whole package.

the m4/m3 looks great and puts the numbers down. But it sounds like a honda while doing so.

Yes it would prevent me from buying. Been a BMW fan for a while - really was looking forward to stepping up to the M4 even if I wasn't all that keen on the new F-series front end. But no way will I purchase the M3/M4 now with it sounding like that. No matter how good the performance is, if the car doesn't have the sound to match and uses artificial sound in the cabin it just makes me look elsewhere. Performance isn't THAT hard to find these days.

BMW knew what they were doing though. Just like how the old V10 sounded miles better than the new TT V8.

It is definitely not feast for senses.

A truly sports car should be received with all your senses. And IMHO the most important ingredient is the sound the engine delivers.

Philosophically it is not accepted that part of those sensations are artificially generated through some Hi-Fi system neither. The sound of this farting can will never grow on me.

Just looking forward to test drive this car next month to have a hope that EPS can somehow be upgraded in my X5 in the future if BMW can do it properly on the M4. The steering feel and feedback there (X5) is just TERRIBLE.

Yes, I do have E92 M3 and yes I still do smile any time I go to drive this car. Are you gonna be faster to the next traffic lights? For sure yes, but it is me who is going to smile in the car all day long.

I just love the sound of the revs building up on a straight 6! Thanks!
