I'm very happy BMW is making the next generation M3 sedan. I will seriously consider one when it comes out. I hope they also make the M3 Gran Coupe as well. You get best of both worlds--coupe styling and 4-door practicality (forget the ugly GT).
I feel bad for all the coupe fans out there. Sucks for you that they are replacing the iconic M3 brand. Just don't steal my m3 badge when you park next to me |

If BMW can't see the importance of keeping the ///M3 name for the coupe, there is nothing left to discuss. It would be a waste of time to even ask what they are thinking. Cheers, e46e92

To my infos the new F32 4er Coupe would be far more different from the F30 even than E92 from E90 ... I think it would be more like 5er vs 6er.
So all you coupe guy get an "real sporty looking coupe" ... this is the main reason, why they change the lable to 4er coupe ... and it makes it much more simple ... if you says you drives an 4er everybody knows that you are an coupe boy. And in history the E21 and its successor the E30 never were called "coupe" ... and all only has 2-door and as the E30 were some time on the market you could spend some more money to get 2 more doors .... but both cars has the same roof line ... so the first F30 M3 were an sedan ... and now the M3 is going to be an Sedan logo again ... BMW only change their mistage not to follow their odd/even rules as they bring the E36 3er coupe into the market ... now one would cry if the had do so, because there would have never been an 3er coupe or M3 Coupe! And sorry, but arguments to call the coupe M3 and the sedan M4 are really BS(!) ... SORRY. The dissicion to call the F32 M4 is only an rumor ... but its really the only dessicion which would make sence, because 3er and 4er were so different, that it would be more difficult to explain why an car that looks like the sporty variant of the 4er coupe was named M3 and not M4. So the dessicin to bring back the Sedan allows BMW to correct an old mistage and simultaneously make it possible to preserve the M3 mythos ... simply in sedan form ... and give the optical totally different coupes the lable M4. And you could be sure ... if the new midrange M models are so good as it seems to be ... no one would cry about the lable ... sedan-fans are happy with their M3 and coupe-far are happy with their M4 .. and no one must must explain what kind of M3 he drives. My bet is on an expanded range of M3 models, no M4, and this will NOT fully match the non-M cars model for model:-
M2 range = Coupe, Cabriole possible GT and others? M3 range = Sedan, 2dr Coupe and Cabriole, 4dr Coupe, and possible a GT and Touring M5 range = Sedan V8 Twin-Turbo, M550d Diesel Tri-Turbo and possible Touring M6 range - 2dr Coupe and 4dr Coupe Last edited by carl_d; 09-03-2011 at 10:53 AM.. |

I would like to point out that a decision has not been made on whether it will be M3 or M4. As I mentioned previously that there are many options on the table including the M-sub brand option regarding M3 staying as there is an i3 that differs from the 3er. Such an application could be considered regarding the M3. That when you get down to it despite the body, the M3 is not just a faster 3er. And again M4 is another option among many.
When I get back from the US I will go into detail but I can tell you now that they have reversed the decision for the M3 Sedan. partly because of the new sub-line CRT Carbon Racing Technology which will be introduced on Sedans and SAV's after the usual launch cycle for enthusiasts who can forgoe the luxury elements. CSL will be re-introduced for the Coupe's. Whereas drivers who want the more edgier track orientated option could be satisfied with potential GTS models of the Coupe's? |

M4 may not be for us
I will go so far as to put out there that the M4 may no longer be the track car of choice.
The 1M was a game-changing indicator of what's coming up in terms of weight and technology for the upcoming 2-series M2. Conversely, the M3 is going to get more luxurious and heavy in its future M4 incarnation. I contend the M4 may not be for us on this board. We'll be buying M2s and cheering how it's the true progeny of the original M tradition. M3 to 1M to M2 = The true enthusiasts lineage.

Who cares what its called? Does it have the power, handling and looks? If so, sign up. They can call M-zuckerburg for all I care.

SCOTT, I'm begging you to tell anyone and every decision maker you know to keep the coupe named ///M3......I'm not saying all change is bad, but not all change is good.
Please, keep this one tradition alive. Please, please, please. Cheers, e46e92 Quote:

Everyone including myself is not liking the M4 name. I can't decide if it's because of my love for the M3 coupe or if it's because we dont like change.
But I have a simple solution. Order the new M4 and de-badge it. Plus BMW had a 5 series for Many years before Audi rolled out the A5. At the end of the day "they did follow" BMw

Don't care what the e30 m3 is called a coupe or a sedan. It had 2 doors, not 4. That's what mattered here.
To bmw, they can call it what ever they want. A car with 4 doors can be called gran coupe also. And that's totally fine. |

M4? Nonsense!!
This is retarded, another excuse to set the prices even higher. It's bad enough the M3 vert is almost 100k with taxes, now a 335 vert will probably fall close behind. I'll stick with getting a 2011 335is and hope that it's dropped enough to be worthy purchase. BMW stop being greedy!!! Stick to your heritage and keep the customer happy or your gonna pull a Honda and mainstream everything to the point customers will be switching.
IE. BMW interior has also been too simple and sucked balls. They're no where close to the Audi/Merc interior styling. Add some of that and then maybe you can charge more and be forgiven. Just my opinion. |

Based on all these name changes and the fact there will be an M model for every numbered series, except for the 7 series, it seems like there needs to be an M7 and possibly a redo of the 8 series and a new M8.

this garbage again. Supposedly, they were gonna do this for the e9X and thankfully halted on the m4 idea. Why not just start a 4 series. Why kill off a part of their own history? But again maybe all rumors.
