all this arguing and I am willing to bet not a single person here would run sub 8:30... so about 40 seconds slower than a stock civic m3

Without a doubt, it is going to a beast. They always are and always have been. Not going to change now.

I’m more impressed with the zl1 1le lap time than the turbo s. If u look at the end, that long stretch, the turbo s is hitting 300 km/h and 1le is stuck at 167/168mph (269km/h) for about 10 sec (speed limiter???) That’s 30km/h slower than turbo s and like I said for about 10sec. That tells me that zl1 is a much faster car.

***also if u look at the last turn before the long straight, the zl1 1le exits it at 114mph. The turbo s exits it at only 110mph.

GM also ran a 7:12, but they didn’t have the cameras installed.

Keep in mind the ring is in Porsche’s back yard and they are able to test there more extensively at a much lower cost than any US manufacturer.

The Corsa that the turbo was tested on is not the tire the cars are delievered on and is comparable to the ZL1 tire.

The most impressive thing is that the turbo S is literally more than double the price of the camaro. Furthmore, the camaro starts life as an econombox built for the masses. GM has been able to modify said econobox to beat the 911. That’s crazy.

Not to mention the Porsche has active aero and a dual clutch transmission!

The 1LE has a race car suspension with no rubber bushings that basically is unusable for the street. You put a comparable suspension on the turbo S and it shave a massive amount of time off. The turbo suspension is a compromise and intended to offer comfortable ride quality relatively speaking.

It really is not that expensive to set a no compromises car up for the race track. I have done this since the 80s. Much more complicated to set a car up to run those times, but that is still sufficiently comfortable to use a daily driver.

With randy pobst driving both he ran 1.33s at laguna for 991.2 turbo S and 1.34s for zl1 1le or 1s slower. Generally the 991.2 turbo S is similar in speed to z06 and on average quicker than zl1 1le. At willow springs 911.2 turbo S did 1.24s while z06 best was 1.25s. I think zl1 1le was high 1.25s..

Actually on a pzero corsa , a fast tire but not a trofeo R. Basically a full tread design with an street-able r compound , not the entire outside shoulder is a slick setup that the trofeo R is and the SC2's that come on the Z06 and AMG GTR have .

Hmmmm, seems like Sport Auto modified their comments in Youtube. It used to specify Trofeos, hence why I posted it as such in the OP. Well anyhow, I edited my OP to indicate Corsas. Thanks for pointing it out

for some interesting context, check out these times

http://www.trackhq.com/forums/f100/t...ap-times-2422/

not sure how up to date this list is, but those stock street cars are "top 3" times comparable to aftermarket converted race cars

Its impressive for the street car to keep up with race cars, and how cheap/fast the race cars are vs. street cars, depending on your perspective (e.g. ST2 '99 C5 on hoosier A6 about the same time as the turbo s at WSIR for 1 order of magnitude less cost)

I am more impressed that Jack Olsen is still driving that 72 make shift RSR (#10 on that list). I have not seen him or that car in 10 years.

Its a luxury GT car though, the equivalent of the z06 is the GT3.
But yes dollar for dollar you can't beat american.
