Another update on the M3 spotted in Sweden

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com

Swedish auto magazine Teknikens Värld which recently published an article on the M3 been fueled up with E85 Ethanol has just posted a follow up.
The original set of pictures were taken by one of their readers. Another reader has now reported also having been present.
This reader however claims to have sticked around for log enough to see the test driver make a few adjustments with a laptop in the passenger seat, take the car for a short drive after which he adjusted some more settings. He also reports that the test driver then waited for another masked car (a Mini) and they took off in high speed.
The speculation now is whether BMW is testing some kind of Multi-fuel engine setup. This might not necessarily be intended for the M3, but who knows

See the whole article at Teknikens Värld

Cheers

So is the F80 not going to have the previously seen hood vent?

That shot isn't very aggressive... could it be the refresh?

If this is indeed an platform for testing some new engine or engine mapping, maybe they are not using the final shape hood?

Earlier prototypes didn't feature the hood bulge so there's mules out there with and without the more aggressive hood.

My evo ix had an e85 and a 91 shittane map. Nothing special?

Maps were switched with a cool light up switch hidden in the glovebox fast and furious style lol.

Most likely there is a panel covering the hood vent. The test mules are always covered with panels in the locations that they want to keep under wraps. As the release date gets closer, they incrementally shed the panels.

There could easily be the option to fuel up with E85 for more power or regular petrol for the standard experience. The car could automatically sense which is being delivered and use the appropriate software. In the world of STi and Evo, E85 can be good for a nice 15-20% power gain over premium gas. The downside is that some areas don't even supply it and while cheaper, E85 requires much more fuel and returns terrible MPG. Having an M3 that automatically knows if you're using E85, 92, 100 octane fuel and changes performance maps could be fantastic. That 420-450hp that we all expect could raise to 500hp with a non-standard fuel. A lot of people will want to do this aftermarket, but just think if this is OEM? happy dance! I think it makes a lot of sense because BMW knows people are thinking tunes even before the car is released.
