Headlight Washer - Inquiry
I have typically thought of this system as a bit gimmicky. I have never seen the headlight washer in action for obvious reasons. The owners manual says pulling the windshield washer stalk back towards you the windshield gets cleaned and in addition at regular intervals the headlights are cleaned. I read on an F80/F82/F83 post in the general section that it activates every third or fourth time the stalk is pulled back, but the lights need to be turned on.
I found a video that shows an older BMW system being activated: I think I will have one of my Boyz video to record the system at work on my F80. I am curious to learn if the nozzle(s) are heated like for the windshield? Has anyone videoed a current F80/F82/F83 system working? Does the washer fluid articulate across the lens or, as in the above video, are there two primary jets that just hit the center of each light in the housing? Does the system work, only in Dynamic Mode, when the lights are turned on by darkness and when turned on, in non-dynamic mode? The location of the unit, is offset quite a bit from the center of the light. Why is that?

.
I guess BMW thought that those washers are not the greatest idea, and 2018 F80 no longer have Headlight washers.. .

Ahh. So that is why no headlight washers on 2018 M3s... I was wondering.

Actually Captured in Action

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I went Auto-crossing this weekend, and before each event I inspect the car, ending in a bath. I had my son use his iPod and he captured the washers in action. Man, do they use up some washer fluid. Two nozzles hit each light center as I thought it might. Quite a bit of the washer fluid splashes onto the hood. It looked like the car was profusely crying after it was all said and done. I will post the video later today.

In theory LEDs should require more cleaning in snowy weather since they don't get hot enough to melt the snow. Maybe they tweaked coding or added some heaters in headlight to turn them on during winter Anyway, I found a F30 headlight washers in action, it should be the same thing as in F80. It seems to spray with good pressure. I wonder if both sides spray at the same time or they take turns

Interesting that the 2018 models don't have the washer. I wonder if there is a manual way to by-pass the intervals to test/wash the headlights?

I think it has to do with the switch to all LED headlights.
My guess: LED headlight do not heat up as much as the HID and the dirt/salt doesn't dry up as fast and doesn't accumulate as much. maybe?

Can anyone please advise, where does this go? 51118061917 - support for washer system Where does it hold to bumper? I removed old bumper and these felt down. I have to understand where to attach them to new bumper. Thanks! |

Just had this happen to me while taking the oil cooler pannel from underneath. Did you find out where is this mounted?
