So much negativity.
Perhaps you should wait until you drive it. I have not driven it but the comments of an M4 GTS without the complexity comes from someone who has.

But we can expect M2 CS and potentially an M8 CS later.

It looks nice, but the performance specifications and other bits don't really make it special. I'm sure there will be buyers for it, but at this price range, a P-car might be a better value.

It's perfect in its form, not to brash. But still usable with drawing attention.

Well, the specs are disappointing. I was so anxiously waiting for this CS and I am left on my appetite. Reading between the lines in the press release, the suspension and exhaust seem like carry overs from the Competition Pack, the engine only has a rather modest increase over the CP and it gets the Spartan interior from the GTS. I actually wished for the exact opposite: the engine and suspension from the GTS and the interior from the Competition Pack. The thing they seem to have gotten right is the aero: between CP and GTS.

Now, I just need info on local pricing to decide what I'll do

San Marino Blue for the win! Finally a real M blue!
How about we add this to the regular color palate

I don't see how people are getting sticker shock on this thing.
A ZCP with CCB's, and 7-Speed with no other options has an MSRP close to $90k right off the bat. Now add the custom carbon fiber aero, alcan/leather interior, GTS hood, OLED lights, the new tune, and a new color then I can understand why the car is in the low $100's. Now, the CS being worth the money is debatable and boils down to personal preference.

If nothing else, the existence of this model will at least likely make the parts such as the oled lights and cfrp hood more readily available for folks who like to retrofit.

Conventional wisdom will say at least 8 sec or so. That would leave 4 sec for suspension, power, weight and aero - believable IMO.
Interesting so few people in this thread are worried about the track performance, which should be more important for a CS model. After all, it gets a decontented interior expressly for that purpose... Anyway, I expect the times would be very similar to say a ZCP with Ohlins and 275/305 R comps. Heck for the price difference you can get the Tractive suspension and still have a chunk of change...

Ah yeah, that came off wrong. I wasn't trying to elude that they came standard but more so attempting to show that you can easily get a non-CS M4 really close to $100K.
These CS/GTS only parts will be low volume options and will probably carry a higher premiums over the more common options.

How so? This is a first time that the M4 CS models is released so there is no historical data regarding the transmission preference of DCT vs 6MT.
The demands of the buyers of the vanilla M4 are quite different from the demands of the people that are willing to stretch their budget out a further 40-50% for a car take drives almost identical at road legal speed but without the comfort amenities. People like me (and a few I know of) are willing to consider this car IF it has a 6MT. Now without this option the whole customer segment is gone and may be gone for good. A 2nd hand Cayman GT4 or a Boxster Spyder is now a very attractive proposition for those who wants a 6MT CS. I really hope that the 6MT will be given a 2nd look on the M2 CS...for the sake of M and its fan base. Last edited by Karmic Man; 04-19-2017 at 10:38 AM.. |
